Let's balance things out since the other post provides no evidence at all that the diners were "Christian" but rather that they refer to "God" (not Jesus) in their note.

I fully expect though, given what I've seen on other gay web sites that I have belonged to, that the Christian bashing topic will continue to get the lion's share of replies. But I'm new here, so I am kinda optimistic that the guys on here will be different.

Here is the text of the note:

“Thank you for your service, it was excellent. That being said, we cannot in good conscience tip you, for your homosexual lifestyle is an affront to GOD. Queers do not share in the wealth of GOD, and you will not share in ours. We hope you will see the tip your fag choices made you lose out on, and plan accordingly. It is never too late for GOD’s love, but none shall be spared for fags. May GOD have mercy on you.”

Unlike the other topic that paints "Christians" as the bigots, here is how a proper news organization handled the story. Not a mention at all of the diners being "Christian" by the reporter.

    Another example of non-prejudiced reporting:

The Huffington Post didn't even use the word "Christians" in describing the diners:

If I knew you in real life I'd be placing a bet with you right now as to whether or not they were Christian..icon_wink.gif

I would not take that bet. It is "likely" they are Christians but what bothers me is how everyone is just assuming they are Christians when there is (not yet) any evidence presented that they are.

It's just a pet peeve of mine when anyone generalizes about a group - I guess I'm super sensitive about it because I am gay and people generalize about us all the time. It's sad to see our own doing the same thing against our perceived "enemies" (the Christians in this case).

Well...I look at it this way, no one with half a brain should see the actions of those diners as indicative of Christianity. It is to me, however, indicative of a fair number of people who claim they're Christian, and of some Christian faiths.

lol, there is also a slim, slim, slim chance they are Muslim. The demographics of that region make this extremely unlikely though.

Here is how the CBS television station there covered the story. No mention by the reporter of "Christians" either:

I believe he's trying to tell us not to jump to conclusions or assume. While this certainly has merit, it's a bit like going to Iran and seeing gays getting beat up but being careful to not assume the people beating up the gays are Muslim. After all, they could be christian, right?

Yes, except I notice you left out the rest of what I said, and which you should pay close attention to. Check out the demographics of that region, please.

Incidentally, Prickley, I'm Christian, and so know full well the humility required to call myself such, and the requirement to look squarely at the beam in Christianity's eye. Christians as a whole are extremely guilty of turning the other cheek to the bigoty of other Christians.

Aristoshark saidI find this thread title really offensive.
For someone whining about Christian-hate, you don't seem to mind advertising your Jew-hate.

    You get the point exactly.

There is no evidence whatsoever that the diners were Christian, yet someone created a topic blaring in ALL CAPS that CHRISTIANS did this. Such a topic is offensive to Christians like myself. I hope you are as offended by the CHRISTIANS topic as you are by this one and that you voice your offended feelings in the CHRISTIANS topic also.

Almost all the people who posted on the CHRISTIANS topic are all too happy to use these diners as examples of Christians because the people who posted have a hatred of religion in general and Christians in particular. It's the "right thing to do" if you are gay apparently.

And at the same time the "official gay position" is that people shouldn't stereotype gays.

Huge disconnect between how the people posting in the CHRISTIANS topic are acting in just the way that they preach is abhorrent.

It makes no sense if you actually think about it.

So, if it turns out that they were in fact Christian (which is most likely to be the case) will you apologize for promoting your hateful religion???

Jews would never be so gauche about God.

The note was not written in Hebrew. Clearly the language is specifically messianic, likely born again Christian.

Just google it. This one's too easy. I can't believe I bother with this crap. Must be a slow day....

There is tangible and intangible evidence of wealth.
There is material demonstration of the wealth of God.

, while all this is happening, the wealth of God

etc. etc. etc. Show us a Jewish reference utilizing that phraseology. Even when Googling Jewish+"wealth of God", all the references remain Christian.

So the title & premise of this thread is Bullshit. QED

Prickly, really? "Almost all the people who posted on the CHRISTIANS topic are all too happy to use these diners as examples of Christians because the people who posted have a hatred of religion in general and Christians in particular. It's the "right thing to do" if you are gay apparently."

What I find interesting is that you are offended, whereas I am not. You should also pay CLOSE attention to theantijock's comment about searching out phrases.

Here is why I am offended. I have observed that gay men in the USA will use the slightest excuse to paint Christianity and those who follow it as a hateful religion and as haters. Just look at what that guy HotJoe posted above. He is the epitome of how most gay men in the USA act. They are quick to condemn the entire religion because of the actions of a few. If a gay man had sex with a 10 year old boy, some in the straight population would do as he did and paint all gays as child molesters. It's the same thing and just as wrong.

I do not know if the person who posted that other topic (the one that put the blame on Christians) is he is also anti-Christian, or maybe he just didn't think about what he was posting and how it serves to reinforce the unsubstantiated gay American view that all Christians are bad, but his topic and the way he put it in all caps certainly invites a big pile-on against Christianity and all Christians as we have sadly seen in that topic.

I posted this topic not as an affront to Judaism or Jews, but to demonstrate how awful it is to post such things that unfairly portray a large group of people in a certain way just because of the stupid and hateful actions of a few.

OK Prickley, let's get something straightened out here, look at this:

CHRISTIAN DINERS REFUSE TO TIP GAY SERVER, SAYS “QUEERS DO NOT SHARE IN THE WEALTH OF GOD”

That is simply a copy and paste of the title of the article, copied and pasted from the article itself. It's already in caps!!!
Try it, you'll get the same result. Are you saying Metta should have, then, after copying and pasting, retyped the whole thing into lower case?

    I don't think so.

Now then, what possible reasons could there be for a lot of US and Canadian gays to be completely unimpressed with Christianity? I'll give you a few minutes for this..

Yes I know, the official position of the church. Though the new pope is extremely progressive and is making big steps toward changing that. If people are going to be so anti-something they at the very least need to keep up on current developments.

For the copy and paste of the article title, everyone has a responsibility to post responsibly. To just copy and paste something so offensive without giving any thought to it is irresponsible. If he did give it some thought and still posted it, that's even worse. I don't know, maybe he will chime in here and explain his motivation.

Uhhh...official position of the church? OK, so there's only one church and one denomination now? Uh oh....

As well, you've missed my point entirely, but that's OK, I'll explain. Large numbers, vast numbers, of gay people in both our countries have been basted, marinated, sauteed, deep fried, and slow pressure-cooked in Christian persecution since childhood, from everything to outright condemnation and ghastly threats of eternal hell to clever and subtle 'love the sinner but not the sin' poison.
If I can understand this, why can't you? The FIRST thing you should do as a Christian is forgive them and turn the other cheek.

There's also this, which I think you also need to consider as well, as too often this message is pushed, intentionally or not by some Christians and their faiths:

    atheist-quotes9.jpg
