Do you follow beach fasion? What cut do you wear on the beach or at home by the pool?

I find the boxer cut very sexy.

board shorts (no undies in the water or just wearing them on dry land!) and flip flops. I see all the different kinds of swimwear undergear.com offers and i just cant picture myself in some of those! I will stick to wearing anything that looks like underwear as underwear around the house ;)

hmmm... well, let's see...oh! i know -- what about this?
    ;)
great question. i'm a bit of a swimsuit fan -- i've got 10 or 12 at least. all styles from little speedos to square cut, trunk and board shorts. i may live in nyc, but i'm always ready for the beach!

I think speedos are super-hot, but I need to lose a touch more weight before I'd wear one in public, and even then, most of the time if I have a swimsuit on it's because I'm camping with my almost-entirely-straight group of friends in Pace Bend park where we go cliff jumping, and even if I lost the weight, they would be mortified by me wearing a speedo.

So I stick with long board shorts, which I actually find *almost* as hot as a speedo. Hotter, if they're on a cut-up, hot dirty-blonde surfer.

Big ol' board shorts for me, too. I like to be comfortable when I'm chasing my son around the pool or going down the water slide.

One problem I have is finding a suit that fits right. I try to wear a size medium, which fits my waist, but it's kinda tight on my big muscle arse and legs. A large feels more comfortable down there, but then it's hanging down low around my waist.

I'm 38 -- and there's nothing more pathetic than someone my age wearing a droopy bathing suit and thinking he's 20.

Any advice on brands for athletic guys?

Standard cut speedos, especially If I'm squeezing in and out of a wetsuit all day. 'course, I do that year round, in rain and snow too, not just summer. Just in the summer I don't immediately jump into someting warmer.

I think a nice body deserves a nice fitting bathing suite. If your a young stud, for sure spedos..But if I could see Mplsjock's arse I could tell you if he needs a pair of boxers to swim in.

I agree with mplsjock being an older guy - I think it's more fitting to wear something less revealling and more flattering like Surfer shorts, there's also more variation in styles with them too.

I think we should maybe say which style of beachwear we don't like.

Personally I think thongs look bad on everybody and should be avoided at all costs.

    Water temperatures < 70 deg: wetsuit(full/spring)over speedos

    Water temperatures > 70 deg:

lap/ ocean swimming / bodysurfing/ bodyboarding/ tanning: speedos or jammers

board surfing/ windsurfing/ beach activities: boardshorts

This year I am going to wear more of the short tight boxer type. But I'm not going to throw away the bikini. I ordered a few of these from N2N Bodywear and I love the low rise look they provide. Nothing like a low rise bikini or low rise boxer.

I liked wearing thongs, but I think they've had their day (INMHO twink bottoms can still wear them).

I wish guys would pay more attention to the colors they are wearing, no matter what the style or cut. Red heads have known for years what colors work for them. Fair skin people need bolder colors. Dark tans and brown skin should wear warmer colors. Pink should only be worn by 250 lb bodybuilders so I won't be embarassed gawking at them!

My preference is nudity and when that is not permitted, square cuts or bikinis.

I love wearing board shorts or boxer style Volleyshorts...duh, surprise... Volleyball player here! :)

I agree with some who said thongs are horrible... look bad on everyone!

Speedos are ok for thin, short guys but look stupid on most anyone else IMHO.

Dunno... a thong does something for a really nice bubble butt. Can't quite picture how that would work for a really hairy one though. Also can't quite imagine sporting one myself.

BTW, My first warm-water vacation was also the first time that I made a surf entry without a wetsuit - I discovered that the surf will strip those baggy shorts right off of you!

Don't let PHLMuscle8 fool you. He was voted "2006 Mr. Philadelphia Thong" by a landslide.

He even makes his own thongs out of recylced plastic milk jugs and beer cans!!

Boardshorts - and /agreed on the cut-up, hot, dirty-blonde surfer in them as well.

I'd move to Cali just to learn to surf...then come back to canada for the winters, lol

I know boards are the hottest thing on the beach now and I wear 'em but they sag so low on me - I can't keep 'em on sometimes which can be embarassing! I have a few speedos but I'm basically shy about wearing them in crowded places but if it's a deserted beach I'll be wearing the briefest suit because I like a "speedo type tan" if you know what I mean. I like square cuts. think they wear them in Rio.

It depends on where I am. Board shorts here in San Diego where I live. Speedo's in Hawaii where more skin seems more appropriate.

Square cuts for my water classes. Speedos for my laps. Boxer(Patagonia) for swim lessons. Board shorts over speedo for the ocean. Did I miss anything? Oh yeah, nothing when I can!

You hot young guys, please drop your board shorts! (You're young if you can wear a speedo without causing acute embarassment to your friends -- I can't.)Even the gay beaches in the east are loaded with board shorts or surfer shorts. You work out all year, Wear a Speedo or square-cut, or anything skimpy. Make our old hearts beat a little faster!

What everyone keeps referring to "boxer style" I think you're saying square cut swimwear. That's what I plan to wear this summer. I would never wear a speedo but I like something that's a little tighter fitting than standard shorts. I hate all the pockets and the crotch "bubbling up" with air. Argh!

So it will be squarecuts for me this summer. :)

Hey I'm an Aussie, we gave the world the speedo, so who am I to argue. Though since Speedo is now owned by a US company I'll probalby go with Aussiebum.
