The best protein after a work out is whey or one of its equivalents.

Soy will just lower your testosterone.
    Whey will just bloat you.

Eat some meat. That's where protein comes from.

The average gym goer worries too much about their protein shake and nowhere near enough about their diet as a whole

Have to agree with this. Protein shakes ARE NOT the be all-end all that everyone makes them out to be. I see everyone in the gym taking them and for the most part the guys that are not ripped taking them just seem - BLOATED without muscle definition.

Whey post workout and cottage cheese can be used a bit before working out for the casein. I use 100% Whey Protein, the coffee flavored one, and tend to mix two scoops with some skim milk after I finish.
