LOSING THOSE LOVE HANDLES

Whats the best way to try to get rid of those pesky love handles? Do you have to eliminate all carbs (and or fat)?
Im six feet tall and about 178lbs (Recently lost 20 lbs after getting off a medicine that caused weight gain).
I know you need to exercise a lot , which I don't right now , partially due to some health issues.
Just wondering if diet alone can get you there and if so, how strict do you need to be.
    Thanks

You need to cut down your total body fat. Like many on RJ say that you shouldn't just focus on one area. Eat more lean protein and avoid bad fat, sodium. I eat pretty much everything but more on the healthy side since I'm a hard gainer. I have to eat a whole lot to bulk up. Good luck to you!

Paleo diet. It's miraculous that a high fat diet without processed sugar and processed carbs will burn "bad fat " around the mid section even if you are old like me. It's really not about exercise since we are naturally lean animals if we forego the artificial "food" .

I love using the ab wheel! Also I don't eat anything with wheat, flour or starches, sugar/ artificial sweeteners. No pop. I only eat meat, cheese, veggies, fruit and nuts! Abs are made 70% in the kitchen and 30% with exercise. Only work your abs 3 days a week. Watch what you eat 7 days a week! When I drink adult beverages, I drink red wine or tequila!

I've given up on losing them and instead promote them as a way to hang on during a wild ride! Waiting to get busted for false advertising and I'm talking about the ride, not the handles…they're real icon_smile.gif

It's just wrong that everything we love goes right to the handles! Good wine, chocolate, beer, snacks. I'm beginning to think that even my veggies are going there!

Six feet and 178 lbs is a great height/weight ratio! I would think much of your love handles, at this point, are just "deflation flab," the skin folds that form when you suddenly lose weight and the formerly taut skin doesn't know where to go.

If that's the case, they should eventually go away on their own. They will go away much faster, though, if you increase the muscle tone in the surrounding area.

Does that explain why you come to a complete stop at stop signs, especially in school zones? icon_eek.gif

It's expensive as hell and you better be sure you make A LOT of income, but yup.

My daughter is working on a blog addressing the cost issue of eating economically on the Paleo diet but you are right that fresh food costs more than dead. Paleo however is a 80% -20 % ratio of veggies to meat so it's not like you eat more than 4 oz of meat at a meal. However ,when you compare the cost of some popular processed food per pound ( chips for instance ) it is not more expensive.

Since I started Paleo diet in 2009 costs have dropped on staples like coconut oil drastically and organic veggies are available at reasonable cost.

You can eat for years on the savings from not having a gall bladder operation. Obamacare won't cover $6,000 or so of the $13, 000 cost.

Tell that to my mom... She's Italian so it's a huge insult to turn down a meal... Even if she does cook with pasta. I offered to buy gluten free lasagna noodles today and she flipped. She literally doesn't understand that this food just makes everyone feel, and look Shitty, though it does taste good.

I don't know what I'm going to do. I want to go on a paleo diet but my family really preventing me from growing as a person. Might have to do what my sister did and sever all ties, save for basic communication.

Wed both rather cut off our own arms, but sometimes I feel we have to do.things that hurt if we want feel good and love ourselves.

Eating Raw Vegan cut my down very quickly but you may not like the speedy ketosis. All the junk, released into your bloodstream from metabolizing that fat, makes you feel rather shitty for a while. I was doing 80/10/10 from August 2013 to April 2013 and dropped from 180 to 156 in that time, while doing cross fit only 1-3 times a week. The love handles I had forming, before then, quickly subsided.

It's VERY expensive to eat that way, though...
