American Bishops Thwart Pope Francis’ Attempt To Survey Catholic Public Opinion
The American bishops are in a tizzy over this survey because they have for eons condemned, denounced, and blocked abortion, contraception, and gay rights. Now, all of a sudden, the new pope has said to let up on their crusades, and the American bishops are asked to make at least a 180 degree turnaround. Their vows compel them to obey the pope, but now they're in a quandary because it makes it sound like they were doing the wrong thing. By not letting the laity voice their opinions, they can report back to the pope what they feel rather than let the catholic people influence the church.
