Anyone care to share their experiences with Lenovo laptops? I'm especially interested in thoughts about their Ideapad line. Good, bad, indifferent.... Let's hear it

The December 2013 edition of Consumer Reports includes ratings of laptop computers. By brand, the reliability ratings are (lower is better):

    Apple - 3
    Toshiba - 9
    Acer - 10
    Gateway - 11
    HP - 11
    Sony - 12
    Lenovo - 12
    Dell - 12
    Asus - 13

Of current laptops tested, among those CR Recommended in the 10" to 13" laptop/tablet combo size, Lenovo ranked 6th out of 7. But it was still among those Recommended, and that IdeaPad Yoga model was ranked a Best Value along with 3 other brands @ $750. No Lenovo in other laptop screen sizes made the CR Recommended list.

We have a set of them at school. I think they suck. They are unreliable.

However, I think that is true of all of the windows laptops anymore. I know a lot of people that have problems and hate Dell. I never have. I know a lot of people that have problems and hate HP - I am not a fan of HP computers. I think it really just depends on the machine.

Thieves like them. Not long ago my credit card number was used to buy Lenovo stuff for around $3,000. Luckily I saw it the next day and Chase FedExed me a new card.

I have an IBM ThinkPad from pre Lenovo days; built like a tank. Slow by today's standards but useful for experimenting with; I think it has Linux on it at the moment. It was a sad day when IBM sold their laptop division to Lenovo.

Other places to check are NewEgg; see how many eggs (stars) it gets on newegg.com. Amazon.com is also good for buyer feedback. And then there's
    tomshardware.com
    and
    anandtech.com

The Mac's market share has gone down. Now that Steve Jobs is 6 feet under I'm confident that it will continue to spiral downward, just like it did before he came back to Apple.

The last laptop I had good luck with was a Toshiba.

I'm a year or two now on my first Lenovo, a desktop. Super fast machine and I like it for the most part. The only issue is some sort of modeswitch message popping up every so often. it doesn't seem to interfere with the operation, it is mentioned on some puter forums, there doesn't seem to be a resolve that I know of and I do not know if it is an issue just on their desktops or also on the laptops too.

Lenovo makes the best Windows laptops period. Ultra reliable and build solid. Stick with the ThinkPad T or X series. There's a reason why NASA uses ThinkPads. icon_cool.gif

The IdeaPad series is ok. I would pick the Yoga out of the others. It's probably well suited for someone that wants something thin and relativity light and stylish. It's kinda mediocre as a tablet, but pretty decent as an ultrabook. The new version came out recently and it's gotten some good reviews.
