fraud by an ex

I recently found out that an ex used a credit account of mine at a furniture store to make a fraudulent purchase in my name about 2 years ago. Apparently he isn't paying on the account and I'm now getting collection calls.

I've called the finance company and disputed the charge so that they could start a fraud investigation. Not that there would be much of a point, but does anyone know if I have any legal recourse against my ex?

Yes, if there is proof that credit card fraud has occurred, you will be asked if you want to press charges or not.

Do you have proof? Like does the store have security footage of him making the purchase? I know 2 years is a long time, but it doesn't hurt to find out. Otherwise, I'm no sure if there's anything you can do. Maybe contact a lawyer to see what other options you have?

It was through a furniture store. The contact information that they told me they had on file was the last contact info I had for him. I'm guessing that paperwork was signed when the purchase was made. I'd like to see the signature because I know it's not mine.

Not sure I'd have the money to hire a lawyer unless it would be worth the time and expense and I could get some sort of restitution.
