Surprised no one else has posted about this. It's big news over here. (The other local election results, not so much.)

"The overwhelming support of New York City voters for Bill de Blasio is the latest sign of the shift towards a new populist left in America."

I was aware of it, didn't think it would have much interest outside NYC. New Yorkers apparently had their fill of a billionaire plutocrat dictating to them, with groundless police stop & frisks on the street, dictating what size soft drinks you could buy, and other intrusions on personal freedoms.

It was the sort of looney stuff the right accuses the left of doing in places like San Francisco, proving that both sides of the political spectrum have their control freaks. And while Bloomberg wasn't running for reelection, it was his legacy that New Yorkers apparently wanted to run away from, electing a Democrat who was less likely to want to micromanage their lives, and treat them like employees in a Bloomberg business.

Also a "friend of Bill's" won the Boston mayoralty. State Rep. Martin Walsh was elected with 51% of the vote against John Connelly, a city councilman. Walsh was open about his recovery and sobriety and some likewise FOBs gave him their tokens as a gesture of support.

I'm as health conscious as any New Yorker; but when Bloomberg passed a law that said (among other places) people couldn't smoke a cigarette in the middle of the 778 acres of Central Park... at 3am, on a freezing Wednesday morning....in a snowy February....when there wasn't another soul around literally for miles.... even I thought he had gone too far in that very "micro-managing" of our lives. Good riddance, Mikey.

"Commie"? LMAO! How adorably retro of you! icon_rolleyes.gif

But you forgot to throw in Fascist, Socialist, Nazi, Liberal, too, per the current trend among the Teabagger crowd. Just throw every term out there, and hope you'll scare somebody with at least one of them, even if some of them are mutally-exclusive opposites of each other, and like your Commie taunt, seldom applicable to reality.

Fool. The New York Post detailed his trips to communist countries in the past to worship their leaders. NYC just elected a communist, I was factually correct. In case his own advertisements about raising taxes to pay for new social programs wasn't enough. What will he do when tax hikes results in less revenue and lost jobs? He will claim he needs to raise them even higher on those who remain, because they are selfish!! Only they can't find any work. This is all very predictable. He will ruin the city by taking it backwards. Remember the crime and graffiti? I do. Stolen and abandoned cars everywhere you look? People afraid to go out at night? Just wait. Last night a liberal radio news man was talking to Elizabeth McCaughy, former Lt Gov of NY. She said deblasio will likely emasculate the police and the shithead host by the name of joe Bartlett had a fit. She was right, and he knew it. I laughed at him.

Check out where he's been. Cuba isn't communist? Check out his plans for the city. The same left wing flatulence all over again. Alter cocker.

The new Mayor of NYC is a PROGRESSIVE folks ! See how they sloth their way into public leadership. Watch over the next few years how the PROGRESSIVES run NYC. Too bad for NYC. The first ones he will attack are the "rich".

What a better place it's become in the past 20 years too. lets see how long it takes for the Dems to turn that around; after all, look at what they are doing to America as a whole.

    ....this guy's kidding, right?
I"m all about Bill de Blasio and I'm so liberal that I masturbate to Huffington Post. Bloomberg did some really incredible work and laid out building plans for NYC to keep the city's economy growing, tourism coming in, and although the path back from Sandy wasn't perfect, it could've been a helluva lot worse. So de Blasio's got some work ahead of him. I hope he doesn't let some of these balls that Bloomberg was juggling, fall.

What happened across the Hudson kinda disproves that statement.
