In truth not officially exclusive to gays, and women can join, too, but owned by a gay couple, in gay Wilton Manors, FL, and most of the members and staff are gay. It opened yesterday, but hubby decided to rearrange the entire patio before putting up the outdoor Christmas decorations, for which some shopping became necessary, etc, so had to postpone going until today.

Wasn't busy at mid-afternoon, and half the guys were as old as me (in other words, REALLY old). A few Adonis guys to shame me, and also admire, but everyone kept to themselves, actually very quiet. No music, thank gawd, though they have TV monitors with wireless sound for your headset. I felt very relaxed and pleased, spent nearly 2 hours there.

Complete selection of the latest circuit & aerobic equipment, excellent free weight area, 4 trainers on duty, group exercise room with wooden floor, small juice bar and gear store. I think most gym rats would be satisfied, and more improvements are scheduled for the months ahead.

The men's locker room was clean & modern, and fortunately with no evidence of the recent trend toward shy male behavior we've discussed in other threads here. Although oddly the showers are all private stalls with frosted glass doors. But guys all get naked in the steam room, which I thought was a bit too hot (the steam, not the guys). The men's sauna isn't finished yet, which is my favorite place after a work out.

They have daily, weekly and monthly passes, in addition to annual memberships, in case any RJers visit the Fort Lauderdale area on vacation. I recommend it.

Worked out there all week last week, was OK, not that much equipment, and there was no one there, the guy at the front desk the last day I was there was the biggest dufus. Definitley not what Main Street used to be tho...all the energy was missing.

Last week was their "soft opening" while they were still getting it ready. That's when I toured it and bought my membership, and they were only partly finished.

It officially opened Monday (yesterday), and as I said I saw 4 guys with "Trainer" shirts on the floor today. It wasn't very busy last week while things like the locker room were being completed, so perhaps that's the cause of the lack of "energy."

As for Main Street Gym, it's predecessor that went out of business suddenly (the sheriff arrived and cleared everyone out at once, leaving coffee cups on the front desk, and padlocked the doors), it had been getting run down for over a year, no money being put into maintaining it (or paying the rent). I wish new owners Jackson & Mark the best of luck, since a gym could be a good addition to Wilton Drive.

Since I don't live in Laud, I had no idea of all that. When I went to Main Street, there was a lot of people, I guess in the wake of all that, they had to go elsewhere for the time being. I agree that Wilton could use the gym tho...
