While driving your car, do you ever just stop and go "Oh my god . . . what if my air bag just spontaneously burst out at me right now . . ."

yeah . . . this is something that happens to both me and my roommate at times

I wouldn't be too concerned with the bag going off... I'd be concerned about not being burned by the rocket fuel that burns to expand the bag

Usually, I'm thinking, "Oh my god, what if a car spontaneously burst through my windshield right now and flattened me?"

Screw the airbag. Way more people get hit by cars than by airbags.

Well, seeing as there is limited possibility the bag will even go off if you actually get in an accident, I'd say it doesn't worry me. To prevent a lot of damage when it does happen, do what your DMV manual and driving teacher (if you had one - it's required out here) tell you to do - constantly be looking around you, that way you know if you could just pull over, etc...That's about all you can do anyways, so get over it!

    What a random subject!
When I drive, I worry about all the loonys that cut people off. I can't count how many times I have nearly been side-swiped.

I usually worry about, "Oh my god, what if some ignorant jackass decides to throw a cinder block off the bridge and it comes through the car"

i'm thinking that my paranoia, for lack of a better word, comes from when my friend crashed his car and the airbag did hit me.

it was pretty traumatic at the time for me, and my glasses cut me right between my eyes >_<

so ever since then im like omg please dont hit me randomly

I imagine-- and then try to make peace with-- a different way I could die almost every day. I've envisioned being t-boned, head-on, a tire exploding and the car rolling several times, the gas tank randomly exploding, hitting a moose, being decapitated (along with the top of the car being sheared off) by high-tension wire strung across the road, and having the following drop on the car or through my windshield and killing me: a stray bullet, a mortar shell, a traffic light, a satellite, an airplane part, a cinder block from an overpass, and the entire overpass.

And those are just the ones I'm imagined happening while I'm in the car. icon_smile.gif I try confronting them all in my head so that in the unlikely event they ever happen, I can't say "well, I never could have imagined that happening, how unfair!"

No vehicles around here new enough to have an airbag.

My Dad used to be afraid of wearing seatbelts. He was convinced that the car was going to go into the river and he wouldn't be able to get out.
The way he drove, I'm still kind of amazed that he didn't die in a car wreck.

I'm a little more worried about the seatbelt. I think: "Oh God, what if my seatbelt is faulty and doesn't work in an accident?"

It happened to me once. It was luckily a minor accident, but I hit my head on the steering wheel (yeah, the airbag didn't deploy either. P.o.S. minivan! And yes, I used to drive a minivan!).

I've been in two accidents where the air bag did go off, the first one I dont think it needed to go off, but it did and man did it hurt. I ended up with a chemical burn on my neck from the stupid chemicals. Though the second one definetly was a savior. I had fallen asleep at the wheel and hit a highway light. lucky for me those thing are designed to snap off upon impact. I remember the bang and spinning then sudenly stopping. Not a fun ride on that one icon_redface.gif

No, but I have been driving along and thought "What if I just turned off the road and over that embankment?"

    hmmm...
    actually my thoughts are more...
I wonder if I ran that asshole off the road, who is driving 90 in a 65 mile-an-hour zone and has tailgated and cut off just about everybody, would be saved by his air bag when his car hits the revine. icon_eek.gif

yeah, I'm cool-collected, sweetheart of a guy unless you piss me off on the road!!! icon_evil.gif

    so there's a thought... yours? icon_biggrin.gif

Not at all since I rarely drive. What does cross my mind however is when I'm down on my knees thinking...he better not shoot spontaneously and get cum in my eyes. "It burns Gabriel it burns!"

I'm more worried about earthquakes, as in "The Big One," which SoCal is overdue for. Especially since I work in probably the least seismically safe building at UCLA. In fact, we've been told if there's an earthquake that we are not to use the exit closest to us, because that end of the building is likely to collapse.

I still remember the Northridge Earthquake from the early '90s. I think that thing gave me post-traumatic stress.

just to clarify: you're probably one of the douche bags cutting me off, aren't you?

why are you spotaneously worrying about your air bag instead of your blinker?
