    Well, he speaks utter nonsense...

“Was there ever a more horrible blasphemy than the statement that all the knowledge of God is confined to this or that book? How dare men call God infinite, and yet try to compress Him within the covers of a little book!”
― Swami Vivekananda, Raja-Yoga(discipline of mind)

^ This statement is applicable for every religious extremists and every self-conceited arrogant religious man.

The OP is not PC but PC led to Fort Hood and other tragedies. Many of the world's problems today relate to Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism. Whether or not the following link is accurate, it is a topic that should be discussed.

There are so many nuts out of there that I'm not going to get all worked every time they speak just to show what a great guy I am. If there is something I can actually *do* let me know.

Jaggal saidReligion was made by straight men to control the masses. If i were straight, I would be Muslim or Christian. Look at all I get + Kingdom of heaven. Islam is a plague that must be eliminated, but so are Christianity and Judaism. The only differences is that Christianity has progressed a bit and lost power after WW2 (same with Judaism after it lost a lot of followers). The are a lot of progressive Muslims and Christians, but they pick and choose what is ok from their "holy" books, it's funny.

    Feel free to "educate" me.

This is only about the thousandth time the rj atheist mafia has expressed misguided ideas about religion. I'm not going to get into it again and again every time a new member wants to post prejudicial views about what religion is for. We have plenty of religious gays on this site (not me) and they don't express 1/100th the hate that the atheists do. For some reason, I think we're supposed to stick together here.

As another gay Arab like me, are you fucking kidding me?

Jaggal hon,I get what you're saying, but let's actually think about it for a second do you know how many Muslims are there in the world?

Well, according the CIA factbook 21.01% of the world is Muslim that's like out of 6.790 Billion which is 1.426 Billion..

According to Adherents.com 1.5 Billion of the world is Muslim.

According to Wikipedia on the page on "the Muslim world" there are 1.3 billion-1.5billion Muslims

And last but not least Wikipedia has it that there are 1.3-1.8 Billion Muslim people in the world. They can't possibly be all bad. can they? icon_rolleyes.gificon_rolleyes.gif (:

"Well, we have here another American who lives under a secular system but thinks atheists are aggressive. I hope you are reincarnated (if such exists) into the European dark ages. Enjoy Christianity ;)
Also, forgot how aggressive atheists are, but religious people are not, apparently. Oh wait, let's talk about the Church and it's influence in oppressing others (Like that Croatia thread, Russia homophobia an link to religion, or should we mention Sharia law, or how Christianity made Africa a nightmare for gay people)."

This is a perfect example of why I won't argue with you. On this site, as soon as an atheist's views are challenged, he starts ranting about things nobody ever said. It's pointless.
Both religion and science are tools that have very dark sides, especially in the past. I would challenge anyone's smug assertion that their belief system is so much better than someone else's.

very true. there are homophobes, racists, sexists, and other haters in every religion and non-religion. i'm agnostic, but i'm certain that i could find agnostic bigots as easy as i could find an islamic saint.

with that said, this religious leader is everything that is wrong with religions in general. people who use religion to promote hate are "filthy" and the act is "as bad as rape."

Science is not a "belief system". Science is a method. Scientists don't "believe" things and then go about trying to prove them, they amass evidence and data and then arrive at an explanation that best fits the data. Religion looks for evidence that supports it and ignores or denies evidence that refutes it.

I don't understand why you always get your back up about this stuff. Believe whatever you like, I don't see anyone forbidding it. But you seem to want to stop people from discussing their lack of belief. And no, atheism is not a "belief system" either. It is an absence of belief.

perhaps, he was referring to scientology. damn, hubbard for confusing us all. icon_lol.gif

my atheist friends and i have this discussion all the time. they tell me atheism is not a belief. i say the belief is that you don't believe. i know just a matter of semantics, but just my opinion.

Aristo, I get my back up because gay people are always at each other's throats for one reason or another. It's disgusting. We have plenty of religious people here who do no harm to anyone yet they are mocked constantly.
It's truly horrible some of the things religious people have done and the articles get posted here immediately but no one ever posts the many horrible things atheists have done. It's way too one sided and that's why I speak up. Religion is not the cause of evil; evil people are.
The op's article was interesting and informative but the conclusions about religion in general that followed were erroneous and insulting do the religious people here who just want to do what good they can with their beliefs.

Jaggal said" Religion is not the cause of evil; evil people are"
evil people are always the cause of evil, and of course there are evil atheists, but religion provides excuses for evil acts with some of the demented material it contains.
    .
This is true but all philosophies of the past were demented.
As I've pointed out before, Hitler was inspired by Darwinian evolution to create his genocide.
If religion wants to update itself, why not let it instead of laughing at its efforts to remove old thinking?

hitler was inspired by an egregious misinterpretation of darwinian evolution.
