Got the iPhone 5s via UPS delivery Thursday afternoon, just 8 days after I ordered it online. Connected it to my home iMac and it set itself up, pretty much without my involvement except to provide security codes and a few preference settings at certain prompts, with my old iPhone 5 automatically inactivated. It was incredibly easy.

I wanted that old iPhone 5 to replace my husband's iPhone 4s, but their SIM cards are not the same size. So for that I had to take both phones to a nearby ATT store for them to accomplish. We were there about 15 minutes Friday (yesterday) morning, and were charged nothing for the swap.

The fingerprint scanner on the 5s is very convenient, means I can keep the phone secure against most theft attempts, without the hassle of always having to enter a passcode every time it wakes up. I programmed 4 fingerprints: my index and thumb, and my husband's index and thumb. It works perfectly.

woodsmen saidBe sure to switch Siri' voice to male from the yucky female.

It already is male, because I had made the change on my previous 5 in iOS 7. Those settings automatically transferred with the switch to the new 5s. Apple is so smart.

So I agree with you. When Siri offered the male voice I immediately selected it.

Oh thank god, I was so worried that you would be hearing a woman screaming at you that the nightly elder specials at Denny's were available at 4PM today, instead of 5PM because of daylight savings.

I've driven past and seen these Denny's, I assume the places you reference. I'm glad we have someone here with personal knowledge of them to share with us. So how is the food there?

Good thing you were dealing with a product developed by competent people, and not this one:

Smart at copying ideas from Android, which is yet again the case with this.

Actually the first time I upgraded an iPhone this way was some years ago, from a 3GS iPhone to a 4, that was shipped to my house. I don't believe Android could upgrade to new phones this easily using a home computer alone at that time, without any direct contact required with the carrier. But perhaps others here can share their experiences.

And as far as copying, which company first introduced the full-featured touchscreen smartphone with finger swipes, and which company copied it?

How anyone could be "disgraced" by what someone writes on a website is beyond me. But if this place is that real to you, I won't break your security bubble.

I'm not sure I'm a "regular customer" and certainly not a business one. I placed the order online on 30 Oct. I received an email on 1 Nov that it was being shipped from China, and the rest of the time until delivery 7 Nov it was in transit.

So I assume mine was already built and just needed to ship. Perhaps you ordered a version that's in higher demand. Mine is a gold 64GB 5s for ATT service. What email have you or your work gotten? Does it say they're "preparing" your order?

You know that 100% of the electronics that made it possible for you to post an outdated article on "slave labour" actually came from worse conditions? Send us letter next time by pigeon post of course since all electronics used in regular mail services are not only assembled in China under extreme labour conditions but their primary elements are mined in Africa by enslaved children and adults. Only then you won't sound like major idiot.

Don't feed the troll. It's just southbeach doing his obsessive derailing of my threads. Anytime I mention Apple he spams the thread with these same old labor claims to disrupt the discussion, he's been doing this for years, partly why he gets repeatedly banned. Engaging him is what he wants, you can't actually have a sane discussion with him, he just views these forums as an opportunity to disrupt & demoralize a gay site.

But you didn't answer my question above about what kind of email response you or your employer got from Apple regarding the iPhone order, presuming you saw it.

If you got it from a coorporation account then its a work phone if not i think it guess the same priority as everyone else. Thats the way Rogers seems to be doing it in Canada and it makes sense since i havent gotten mine yet, theres another girl at work also waiting for hers icon_sad.gif. We dont get any emails, it gets ordered over the phone and it gets delivered when it does, no prior notification.

I don't go around claiming what a "humane" person I am on the one hand and then consciously making a decision to purchase a product from a company that is widely known to use slave labor to build their products.

Yeah, articles from the New York Times less than 2 years ago are "old labor claims" without any merit whatsoever. Right....

Yeah, I got my first Apple computer in 1983, haven't been without one since. Never had one of their products fail, either.
