Twice now on RJ I've seen guys say that they're a geek because they like comic books and/or anime. If that's true then the bar has been dramatically lowered.

My definition of a geek is someone who knows the ins and outs of computers and can do computer admin stuff, or programs computers, or is an engineer (electrical, mechanical, civil, etc.), or is a chemist, etc.

What's your definition of a geek?

You're usage is a bit dated and, yes, the bar has been dramatically lowered. One can be a "computer geek" but it isn't limited to that and doesn't necessarily imply any technical knowledge or expertise. Basically it has become another term for "enthusiast".

Dont get confused. Geek is NOT the same as nerd.

A geek is someone who is crazy about something and knows everything about it. You can be a music geek, a comic book geek, a TV show geek, electronic music geek.
Geeks can be cool and attractive.

Now a nerd is a lame version of a computer geek. They're not attractive, they have no sense of what's cool or not, they're just into their little worlds.
that isn't a "geek". "geeks" are interested in things that require deep thinking or rather have a vast knowledge about something but are also socially awkward where they don't exactly fit in. you can be a science "geek" but you can have a jockish personality where you aren't really a geek.
Yes to a point. I'm a Geek. I read comics; collect action figure; watch too much Sci Fi play role play games; have a Garden Railroad and stuff

But I also love working out. So you can be a geek (ot at least tres passionate about stuff/even typically geeky stuff) and be a jock. lol

AardvarkPetter saidI've always defined a geek as: a starchy plant tuber that is one of the most important food crops, cooked and eaten as a vegetable.

Very knowledgeable on the subject I see.

Lol I'm a little geeky/nerdy! by doing some of these things below. icon_eek.gif

* playing video games
* watch too much sci-fi movies
* extensive knowledge of world history
* speak several languages
* I'm a little shy in social setting, but after some alcohol, I loosen up and get crazy? haha jk
* I sorta like other hot nerdy guys ?? lol

I think it's the notion of nerdy geeky guys who are not super buff steroid dudes who spent like 24/7 of their time at the gym! icon_redface.gif

I can say this being one of them:

A geek is someone who doesn't abandon the wonders of childhood in order to affect some measured adult coolness.
