So, my university holds a charity event each year called Mr. RWU in which the entire student body votes on men they want to see compete is a "beauty pageant" of sorts and the top 8 men voted upon get to compete. I was one of the Mr. RWU contestants and for the talent portion of the show, I chose to do a acoustic cover of I Kissed A Girl, but with different lyrics and the new chorus, "I Kissed A Guy". The crowd LOVED it. It felt amazing to have such a positive reception. I've had compliments since the show from people I've never even met (gay, straight, male, female), saying how much they loved it and how awesomely bold it was to do it at a show where students, parents, faculty, and towns-members would be there.

Myself and the other seven guys raised $20,000 for the local Hasbro Children's Hospital and Children's Miracle Network.

I just wanted to share that with all of you. It feels great to put yourself out there and have such positive embracing feedback.

Here are the lyrics I re-wrote for the song. The chorus changes slightly each time-

This was never the way I planned
    Not my intention
    I don't deserve a reprimand
    But this I'll mention

    I'm no Frank Sinatra
and I'm more prone to inhibition
    But this latest stigma's
    Taken all discretion

I kissed a guy and I liked it
Lookin' fine in his Banana Republic
I kissed a guy just to try it
I hope my PA don't mind it
    It felt so wrong
    It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a guy and I liked it... I liked it

I saw him from across the room
    Wearing his J. Crew jacket
Good sense of fashion, but who assumed?
I admit I was the culprit

    I know I'm impatient
    But damn it's about time!
    I won't remain silent
    I'm gonna make him mine

I kissed a guy and I liked it
Lookin' fine in his Banana Republic
I kissed a guy just to try it
I hope my guy friends don't mind it
    It felt so wrong
    It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a guy and I liked it... I liked it

Us gays, we are so helpful when
The next guy breaks your heart again
You might say we're the best of men
    Don't try to deny it!
All straight guys should be taking notes...

I kissed a guy and I liked it
Lookin' fine in his Banana Republic
I kissed a guy just to try it
I don't really give a fuck who minds it!
    It felt so wrong
    It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a guy and I liked it... I liked it

In case you're wondering, a "PA" is a "personal assistant". Each Mr. RWU contestant had a PA who had to be female. For the record, my PA has no problem with me being gay. She's one of my really good friends, i just wrote the line cause I thought it'd be funny.

Wonderful, and congrats! Roger Williams University already seems pretty progressive, glad this happened for you. Are you otherwise out in your community, campus, and to friends and family?

My school, University of Utah, used to host a drag queen show during Pride week. It was packed. Too bad the drag performers weren't that great icon_smile.gif but the show was a hoot. This is right in the middle of Salt Lake City. I'm glad my school is so liberal and has a great LGBT student organization.

    Haha! Awesome story! icon_biggrin.gif

Just goes to show how far we've come eh?

Reminds me of a contest a straight (and really good looking) friend of mine joined in once. However that one was unashamedly a drag show featuring all straight guys dressed as girls heh. Also a benefit event sponsored by a nursing school.

GOOD FOR YOU! that's my favorite story of 2008. Seriously, I wish I had been there. I third the motion for a video online.

    As an aside:
Did you happen to see the episode of Dancing
With the Stars when Lance Bass and his partner, Lacey, danced to "I Kissed a Girl ..." At the end he kissed her. It was a great joke. On another episode she said, "I loved NSync and wanted to marry Lance - that ain't gonna happen!"

The last show comedian Jeff Ross "roasted" the three finalists. "What can you say about Lance that hasn't already been said about Clay Aiken?" was one of his lines.
