PrickleyHeat saidBlessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
    Matthew 5:1

If the New Testament was not written under a time and in a place of Roman domination, and Jesus' Son of Man movement was a success:

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of earth, ruled by the Son of Man.

In Jesus's day, much persecution of his community and his people was done by Rome:

Blessed are those who are persecuted by Rome (with its taxes and corruption of Jewish self-determination in religious and governmental affairs) because of Jewish righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of the Son of Man.

Pontius Pilate [Caesar/Rome]: Jesus Christ, where is your kingdom? I know you're not taking ANYTHING away from Rome, now are you!

Jesus [Judea]: My kingdom is not of this earth.

Pontius Pilate/Caesar/Rome: You're lying. What was that Palm Sunday demonstration all about? We ALL know the statement that charade was making.

    Jesus. Who governs Jerusalem?

    Jesus: You do.

Pontius Pilate/Caesar/Rome: Jesus. Who appoints the high priests?

    Jesus: You do--Rome does.

Pontius Pilate/Caesar/Rome: Jesus. From whom does the high priest get his robes in order to conduct Temple sacrifices on high holidays?

    Jesus: From Rome.

Pontius Pilate/Caesar/Rome: So Rome has the ROBE worn by the priest in order to go into the Holy of Holies once a year, AND YOU turn over the tables of the money changers because THIS HOUSE IS YOUR FATHER'S HOUSE--a house of prayer.

Did I or ANYONE ELSE IN ROME AUTHORIZE YOU TO DO THAT?

    Jesus: No.

    Pontius Pilate/Caesar/Rome: I understand you're a king.

    [Pause.]

Jesus. Rome will execute a king.

    [Pause.]

Jesus, Herod the Great, the one who built the Temple where you staged your charade, came to power because with Rome, the Jewish king, Antigonus was executed.

Rome, then, called Herod King of the Jews.

Now, Rome does not authorize a united kingdom of the Jews. After Herod the Great King of the Jews died, we only authorized the titles of ethnarch and tetrarchs.

So, the Son of Man has his kingdom of righteousness. The Son of Man is making a kingdom from Jerusalem--did the Roman Senate vote on this? (Disgusted.) Sentence: crucifixion.

Rome will recognize you as King of the Jews when your sentence is carried out.

    Case closed, Son of Man.
