Would you lower the age of consent where you live for gay relationships?

What is the minimum age you would have a relationship with? 21? Is it arbitrary? When does adulthood begin?

The 15 year olds at my gym look 18. The 18 year olds look 25. Seriously, for both gays and straights, are people supposed to ask for ID before they date someone?

Not exactly, but I'd stop sending teenagers to jail for having sex with other teenagers.

    25. yes, it's arbitrary and inconstant. adulthood is also arbitrary and inconstant. currently, in the us, legal adulthood is reached between 16-18. however, in 1880, the age of consent was 10 in most states but ranged from 7 in delaware to 12 across nine states and dc.

Ask the US gays serving long prison sentences (up to 45 years) for having sex with minors they thought were over 18, because that's what the kid himself claimed. US law is fucked up, especially when it comes to putting gays behind bars.

You not only have to ask, but see the legal proof. That's what the US requires, or you go to jail.

I don't think there is anything in the books about dating per see with minors. In my high school there were all kinds of seniors who had already turned 18 who were dating underclasssmen. And even if a dude got a girl pregnant, as far as I know, no charges were ever filed against the guy, if the sex was consensual.

In the UK it is 16 for same and opposite sex couples. I think it is right they are the same, maybe it could be one year lower (for both) but I am not convinced. There is a special offence for those who are older and in a position of trust (e.g. teacher) which I definitely agree with. I don't like the idea of any big age gap relationships at that age, personally.

I would lower it to 14 or 15 (at least for men, who can't get pregnant, and are not forced into sex-slavery)- the age (according to that unimpeachable source, Wikipedia) in the more advanced countries in Europe. Germany and Austria -14; France, Sweden and Denmark -15. Although I don't have any interest in guys that young, it seems really cruel and stupid to imprison some guy for years because he had sex with someone only a few years younger. (The 18 year old and the 14 year old boyfriend). I know a number of guys who related that they started having sex when they were 14 or so, and they turned out just fine - in fact they were the ones initiating the sex (which is typically the case). Looking back, I certainly wish I had started having sex at that age. (My parents would not have approved.) In the USA today, kids are experimenting with sex at much younger ages than when I was a teenager - all the high school pregnancies aren't the product of phlogiston.

personally i think it would be better based on weight rather than age. That would take care of the exploitation gap a little better. I started out slowly at 11 so really what difference does age make if it isnt a physical disparity and they are both in school.

Sex should just be way less taboo especially oral.

Why would this make any sense? What if a 14-year old weighs 180lbs because he juices and works out religiously, and a 19 year old weighs 125lbs because he has a fast metabolism and doesn't eat more than the calories required for maintenance?
