Whenever there are stupid things to say, do it here. Purge those stupid things in here and demolish them. Expunge and obliterate those stupid things.

Aristoshark saidWhen I was a kid I adopted a potato as a pet.

When I was a kid one of my neighbours was a boy who was one year older than me. He kept a lump of glass in a bucket of water in his garden. He told me it was going to turn into a diamond. One time I went into his garden and stole the lump of glass because I wanted to sell the diamond and be rich.

Wow it feels good to get that off my chest icon_cool.gif

At a dinner party thrown by the only black male in the original cast of a Broadway show he knew I'd seen I asked which character he'd played.

In high school the class was fussing over a girl's professional photographs and I kept asking which catalog she'd modeled for while everyone kept shaking their heads and pointing at her wedding ring.

Getting taken with blinders on by "Six Degrees of Separation" con artist David Hampton.

A series of blown opportunities, including an IPO and after my first and only audition a Broadway callback a real actor would've killed for that I turned down.

"The problem was this: prime minister Redmond van De Poste and the ruling Commonsense Party had been discharging their duties in such a dangerously competent fashion over the last decade that the nation’s stupidity—usually discharged on a harmless drip feed of minor bungling— had now risen far beyond the capacity of the nation to dispose of it in a safe and sensible fashion." Jasper Fforde, The Woman Who Died A Lot

There is quite a lot of this theme scattered through the Thursday Next books.

"But," Landen went on in a lather of outrage, "the prime minister has poured scorn on Traficcone's suggestion to offload our unwanted stupidity to Third World nations, who would be only too happy to have it in exchange for several sacks of cash and a Mercedes or two."
"He's right," I replied with a sigh. "Idiocy offsets are bullshit; stupidity is our own problem and has to be dealt with on an individual 'stupidity footprint' basis — and landfill certainly doesn't work."

Eventually, the government has to undertake Huge Stupid Projects, at the cost of billions, for the sole purpose of balancing the Stupidity Surplus. They crop up all through the series. And you probably didn't realize just how vital these programs really are. I try to be responsible for my own stupidity footprint. As long as there isn't someone else handy to blame it on.

If people are stupid, are they stupid enough to realize they are stupid or are they clever enough to realize they are stupid? It could be genetic.
