'tis the season to be jolly...or depressed. I can't personally vouch for the organization which is sponsoring this event. But their cause is a noble one.

All too many of us gay men have thought seriously about "ending it all" or know at least one person who has. (Count me in on both of these groups that nobody wants to join.) If you've lost someone in your life this way it could be very worth your while to be at the observance in your area.

    Choose life!

This is a really great resource. Thanks for sharing it. I don't know anyone who committed suicide, but I found myself really fascinated with these resources and the video this organization created. I posted it on facebook.

It makes me think about people that I know and love. I was trying to think of people that I know that could be at risk of committing suicide. But, there isn't anyone that I know that I would think is considering it.

So, I'm wondering: for people who do know someone who had committed suicide, did you see it coming? Or, was it something that you never could have seen happen, like a complete shock because you wouldn't have expected it in a million years?

Apparently Sage is one of those disgusting, pretty stupid ones who thinks he's smart or cute. He is neither.

I've known a guy who committed suicide. Bob Ware. Had a dog named Tupper. Really good guy. His dad committed suicide, too. Very sad.

you gotta be a really lame motherfucker to be making fun of the mentally ill huh, breh.

    The mentally ill? No.

The sanctimonious, trite, self-righteous, pious, posturing, overly literal, hyper-sensitive 'take every comment seriously and to heart, and then attack those that don't' attitude, sure, i'd poke fun at that.

    Good day! =D

QFT. There's no end of sanctimony around here. Some of the worst offenders are right here in this thread, a few posters north of you. Talk about creepy.

Ah, bait to attract those sappy sentimentalists who might find humor about suicide tasteless, and shame them as the assholes?

    Interesting.

Probably a more appropriate placement for the topic might have been the mental health category. But, sanctimony aside, if a poster, an OP, creates a sort of support group space--and it's not as if suicide is unknown to our community--is there no presumption of a reasonable expectation for the slightest measure of respect?

Nobody bashed my Marvin the robot post which, though makes light, also brings to light aspects of living in misery for millions of years vs living happily. Had anyone commented negatively, I'd have explained that readily & as easily as I could have fabricated haha justification for my irreverence. I would add however here that I have more than my fair share of personal experience in the topic so it's not as if I was coming out of left field.

So then, where is the posturing in this? Obviously people were offended. How humiliating for the supposed-offending poster would it have been to explain or at least have the decency to make up some justifiable reason for the irreverence. Being offensive in fun is not the same as going on the offensive.

Instead of assuming a fighting stance, instead of defending an offense, would not a simple explanation have benefited discussion? Hey, I posted that perseverance thang to point out our control over our lives or whatever he might come up with on the cuff, be it sincere or fucking not. Like anyone couldn't see where that was otherwise headed.

Argument is wonderful. It is how we learn individually and expand consciousness socially. You don't have to fight to get there.

    Intended bait? Nope.

Light hearted, off-the-cuff, irreverent, tongue-in-cheek dark humour? Sure.

    Fucks given? Absolutely none icon_biggrin.gif

hope you don't have someone close to you or have to go through that shit yourself to realize suicide isn't a joke.

well, for one... if you're joking being light hearted, you did it at the WRONG time when folks were being serious. why you're still here, continuing it after the general consensus says that you fucked up is beyond me. you're only just digging a hole and setting yourself up for folks to really get at you.

    Most people are sheeple.

    Consensus to the wind! =D
