FIrst it helps to know that we're having an unusual wind storm here in the SF Bay area. I don't know but it seems like 40 to 50 mh gusts. We just had a couple days of rain, the first of our usually wet winter weather. But now that is gone and the skies are totally clear and there is this crazy wind. I actually saw a trash container with stuff in it blow over and get blown down the street, trash and all!

But that isn't the thing I've never seen before. Just now as I was standing out in the back yard looking at the stars and moon (so clear!). Then I noticed a couple power lines along my street, across from the front of the house, BLINKING. At first I thought they were shorting out and sparking but then I realized that's not it. There are two lines with red lights on them near the poll, and the lights are blinking. It isn't random. The flashes are very clearly timed, about every two seconds. Since the lights are on different lines, they're slightly out of sync so one flashes and then the other. Then there's the pause and they flash again.

I assume it is some kind of alert mechanism built into the lines but I've never seen this before! Anyone know anything about them? icon_eek.gif

How close are you to Oakland airport?

Nowhere near. I'm right on the Berkeley/Oakland border, about 2 miles from Campus.
