Anyone know of a cheap place to stay (under $100) for one Saturday night in South Beach? I have a work conference and want to add a day to myself to the trip. Any help is appreciated!

Never mind the slutino above. icon_lol.gif

OP, have you checked out airbnb.com ? It's a service that let's people rent out a room in their house or apartment to travelers. Since you only need a room for one night, it might be something to consider. That is, if you don't mind crashing at someone's pad on instead of a hotel.

AD, is that true??? Wow, I remember when you scouted that for me a few years ago just after it opened. I had some drinks there that first year!

On a more constructive note for my upstate friend who resides in a favored town of mine - try vrbo (vacation rental by owner). com and search The Hudson. I really like that place and it is very convenient to beach, clubs and Lincoln Road Mall - at 15th & Washington. I would think - assure you even - you can get a $100 price off season now. Good luck & Happy Thanksgiving!

So I've read online, and their website is blank, their phone goes to a survey of some kind. And the answering machine at another number calls it "Nash" which I believe was their name before becoming Lord's. So I dunno.

Yes that is correct it was the Nash Hotel. In fact it appears to have reverted back to the Hotel Nash - see nashsouthbeach.com > copyrighted 2013!

I don't know, from what I saw when I was there in October good luck trying to find something for less than $150/nt in South Beach itself. Might be easier to see if you can a deal extending your stay wherever you're at for your conference. Or stay a little further north in Miami Beach.

That's semantically misleading. South Beach (SoBe) is an informally named subset of the City of Miami Beach, at the south end; they are not the same. Clearly Sungod17 meant going to the north end of the Miami Beach barrier island, which is NOT South Beach, but still within reach of SoBe for its tourist features.

Even more confusing to tourists is the City of Miami, which is 2 miles across Biscayne Bay on the mainland, with no ocean beaches. Many will go there by mistake, when what they really wanted was Miami Beach, and the SoBe section, with the art deco district and the beach. A map clarifies things nicely.

You are such a fuckin fuckstick, you know that Art???

Is not South Beach part of Miami Beach? Do I need to show you my mutherfuckin address???? It's in goddamn Miami Beach.

Maybe the guy with the big ears should have made himself more clearer. He meant NORTH BEACH. Which is also part of Miami Beach, such as South Beach and Mid-Beach.

Yes I have been coming every year to Miami Beach since 1995, before a lot of the renewal. In my belief, South Beach extends to 22nd - Collins Park. Mid Beach picks up there and runs to what I call "The Twist" on Collins - Fountainbleu Hotel. From there Upbeach (I coined it) runs through Condo Canyon to the proper Miami Beach border when the other towns (NBV, Surfside, etc start). Simple, accurate and honest. I hate these hotels and what not way up in Sunnyside Isles refer to their location in South Beach.

The Seagull hotel, on Collins avenue , right in front of the W hotel. It's like 59$ a night. Enjoy

Gesh, it's so difficult trying to communicate with the academically challenged. And I even gave you a map. Well, my mistake, you obviously can't read that any better than you can English.

North Beach is NOT another town you buffoon. It's another subset, as you put it, of Miami Beach.

    Am I not right?

North Beach is not a municipality. North Miami Beach is, but as I have complained, this isn't even on a barrier island but on the mainland north of Miami. Named years ago I think by developers trying to hoodwink people.

Could have been, depends when it was incorporated. The cheating land deals were mostly in the 1920s, when Everglades swamp would be sold as habitable. And the original Everglades came as close as the Atlantic Ocean shore in some places.

There are several Florida towns with the word "Miami" in them, like Miami Gardens, North Miami, North Miami Beach (often contracted by the locals into "North Beach" as I did above), and of course Miami Beach and Miami itself.

The barrier islands are a bit confusing, since hurricanes and man-made channels have created technical islands from what were ofttimes a fairly continuous line of offshore barriers. The bridge at Bal Harbour is an example, north of Miami Beach.

While I also live on what is technically termed an island, Wilton Manors. Not on the ocean but inland, surrounded on all sides by the 2 forks of the Middle River, hence calling itself the "Island City". The developed part of South Florida is packed with waterways, natural and manmade, that you often don't appreciate until you see a map or aerial photos. In some ways it's a veritable Venice, with a vast canal & river waterway system, and explains why so many of the roads aren't continuous and dead-end.

It's terribly difficult trying to explain to a person who thinks they are an expert on everything that they are incorrect. But you're giving it a good try. icon_wink.gif

Well, since you claim to have lived on South Beach, and now in Miami just a couple of miles away, what are your own informed suggestions about that area, for fellow RJers asking for help? And specifically the OP of this thread?

In the 5 years I've been here you've never given any valid advice about South Beach. Is it because you don't wanna be helpful to other RJers, or you've simply never lived there, just visited briefly perhaps?

You are quick to criticize me for giving advice, but have nothing useful of your own to offer. Interesting...

Why doesn't the State of Florida do itself a long overdue favor by politically dissolving all the smaller municipalities like Miami Beach, North Miami Beach, Coral Gables and all those other little suburban municipalities and consolidate them into the City of Miami. The state is supreme after all according to the US Supreme Court. The state can dissolve municipalities at its pleasure and even against the will of the people. Florida should do just that and consolidate that whole metropolitan mess into the City of Miami. There, problem solved.
