TyBo saidHello fellow RealJock Members,
I was wondering if anyone goes to or went to University of Southern Florida? I'm thinking about going there to get my Masters in Chamber Music degree. But what wondering if I could get a little insight on South Florida, aka Tampa (where the college is located). Please message me if you have anything to say on the matter. That would be greatly appreciated. Never been there before in my life but am very open to experience something new.
Thank you very much.
Take care of yourselves.
I didn't attend University of South Florida, but I am familiar with it because growing up in FL one tends to meet quite a few people who have attended. Just to be clear....It can be confusing, but I'm assuming you're speaking about University of South Florida? Or are u talking about Florida Southern university? They're two different school. University of South FL (USF) is a prety good school by Florida standards. It's pretty big as well... I'd say it's prob in the top 5 of the state for public schools. UCF, FSU and UF outranking it.
Also, just to be clear u mentioned u wanted insight on south FL, which in FL...means Miami, broward, and Palm beach. I think USF got it's name because when it was founded it was the most southern public university in the state at the time..... now, it's kinda weird because it's not anymore. FAU and FIU are more south Florida publics, but I imagine they're newer schools so I dunno. .
Tampa IMO is an awful awful place, however coming from some bumfuck, flyover state like you, i'd imagine you'd quite like it. It has a few areas with lots of gays. The campus of USF is really nothing to cream your panties over. Its located not too far from Busch gardens actually, but I mean-- who goes there? -- it's seen better days.
Anyway, USF library is super nice, it even has a starbucks in the lobby and I believe USF has a highly regarded music program, so that'll be good for you. The surrounding area is very suburban....lots of shopping plazas, chain restaurants, etc all around. The nice things is you're not too far from Clearwater and Saint Pete-- very nice beaches. Also, Sarasota has great beaches as well.
Hope this helps!
