So I'm a weatherman. Yes, I get geeked up over clouds. Yes I'm in love with cold fronts and yes, I'm really telling you about the weather....

By the end of next week, the 3/4 of the nation may be gripped by one of the biggest arctic outbreaks in 20 years! Details are sketchy at best, but we have been monitoring it for a couple of days.

I know this doesn't mean a whole lot to you, but you can see how basically the bottom has fallen out of Canada.

    http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod/analysis/namer/gfs/12/fp0_192.shtml

IF this verifies, places like Houston, TX may have high temperatures only in the mid to upper 20s. Dallas may see highs of 20 or so with lows in the single digits and Oklahoma City may drop below zero. Significant cold is on the way....I'll do my best to keep everybody informed.

I love a man with a passion!!!! YUM! I even get goosebumps when I see a Weatherman on TV get all passionate about the activity - such a turn on. As for the arctic outbreak, it's about time Houston gets their fair share. 2005/06 in Dallas was awesome as I got out of work and experienced more snow in Dallas than I ever have. I'm glad my relatives will have a White Christmas - I love a White Christmas.

Mr. Weatherman, I do appreciate your enthusiasm and your sense of civic duty, and I do know that sometimes it really is the "Big One." But sometimes it is a bit hard to tell when the weather media are serious and when they are crying wolf. Local news seems perennially eager to sell each new front as "Winter Storm 2008!!!" and to put newsanchors outside to shiver in front of a camera in the hope of drumming up ratings. Does anyone else know what I am talking about? Now, I know you are a man of science. I will keep my eye on this arctic wave, but I am going to hope it turns out to be some meteorological hype.

It's snowed here in SW Ohio all day today and all evening and frankly it rots! It's only Dec 6th! What the hell does actual WINTER have in store for us if it's this cold and wintry already.

LOL...no but some of those videos are funny. You want a laugh? Look up Mark Mathis on youtube.

Ok, so this chart you see here (in the link below) is one of the coldest charts I've seen in years and years. It indicates HIGH TEMPS of -25 below zero in the Dakotas. The -10 degree isoheight you see over Kansas indicates temps below zero as well. Canada has stomach pains and she's about to take a big ass dump on the U.S.

It's not what's there right this second. It's what's on the way. You must look at the 500 mb level and the overall synoptic pattern to determine what's about to give way. What we call a "cross-polar flow" is setting up thanks to an omega-block over Alaska. So the coldest air in Siberia currently (running 50 to 60 below zero) will bypass Alaska and spill in over the pole.

Here is a look at the upper levels:

    http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod/analysis/namer/gfs/00/fp0_192.shtml

What your looking at is an omega block over Alaska. See the ridge (upside down u) over Alaska? Those black lines are Rosby waves. They are kinked like the greek letter "omega" hints the name. That type of block forces the coldes of air down. There's also a polar vortex over Hudson Bay. That will also help to shove the air straight south. With pressures, per the Euro model, of 1067 as of 0z, that type of cold dense air will spill straight south or retrograde to the west, per the map above, and bring in the arctic airmass.

    Temps in Siberia:

    http://www.findlocalweather.com/weather_maps/temperature_north_asia.html

    Temps in Canada:

    http://www.findlocalweather.com/weather_maps/contours/640x480_currents_ca_temperature_i1.png

    Temps in Alaska:

    http://www.weatherforyou.com/contours/wx4u_320x240/currents/usak_temperature_i1_points.png

So as you can see, the cold air is bypassing Alaska. Typical cross-polar flow. I'll keep you guys updated. Very interesting days ahead.

    FOUR of us into WX.......

I see a chilly spell coming, but not anything with Houston, TX, getting 20 degree highs.....at least for the next 2 weeks...... icon_cool.gif

U serious? Don't take the gfs literally. Handles cold air poorly. 850 temps look very impressive ranging from 15 in Brownsville to -6 in the pandle. The reason it doesn't look very cold is because the gfs sees a southwest flow aloft that's practically almost zonal. That will be easily overcome! When you have isoheights of -20 in Kansas!!! ARGH!!!!!! You have an block over the Yukon that is humped up like a show dog almost to the pole. This is by far the coldest I've ever seen the gfs. The euro is even more telling.

    I hate weathermen.

You guys are always wrong about everything. Everything.

Last night, there was general agreement among everyone that when I woke up this morninng, there would be 1-2 inches on the ground.

I thought the first snow of the season in New York!! And got really excited!!! Cause I love snow!!!

And then, I woke up after getting in late from a party, and there's NOTHING on the ground. Absolutely nothing.

You guys are a waste of air. You all need to be lined up with drug traffickers and shot mercilessly.

That guy is a buffoon. If I was that station's general manager, he'd be gone today!

I think he'd also have a good career as a TV preacher.
