    Firstly,

you might wants to point out in your title what you might be spoiling.

    Second,

I think if you read the comics you knew when hershel was captured he wasn't living, if you didn't read the comics, rick giving hershel's "we get to come back" speech basically sealed the deal. But I actually thought it was a great episode. The show tends to have better mid season finale's than end of season finale's in my opinion.

sure and i didn't read nor do i want to read the comics. it's nice just enjoying the show without knowing what will happen next. in any case, i really enjoyed hershel's character. he was such a great addition to the show. i think i would rather have seen rick die.

Rick will never die. That is the only sure thing about the show.

It's likely Mishone and Darryl will also never die. I think pretty much everyone else can be thrown up on the chopping block.

Yes, he served his purpose then became boring but it was still shocking to see him go the way that he did.

Oh and I am all for rioting if Darryl or Mishone die buuuuut they won't.

Hershel was one of my favorites, so I hated that he died, and the way it happened. But, I wasn't surprised. I figured they were going to kill one of the major players with the way they were promo-ing the episode.

Actually sean I wasn't. I stopped caring quite awhile back when I began seeing the pattern of get-you-hooked-and-caring-about-a-character, convince-you-they-are-a-vital-ongoing-part-of-the-story, then kill-them-off-to-to make-you-upset. That killed it for me.

Bill still watches it but he's also getting a bit tired of the repetitive rollercoaster. icon_sad.gif

unfounded7 you're right, it was definitely the way they killed him that made it even more upsetting. however, for some reason, i never cared as much about the previous major characters (lori, sophia, patricia, merle, the governor). it came to a point where they were all a bit annoying, uninteresting, or deserved to die (governor). i'm starting to feel the same about rick and the son - just kill them already. however, hershel's character brought such stability to the group that made me feel like there was hope for them in the end; his gruesome death was just a rude awakening that there is no hope. it's so ironic how emotionally attached to that character i've become seeing as i refused to watch the show in the beginning because i thought it was just another stupid zombie show (which it probably still is, but you know what i mean).

Yeah, Hershel was definitely the voice-of-reason (embodiment of stability) within the group. I skipped season 2 but thought he was consistently written as most intelligent and thoughtful human being throughout season 3 and the first half of 4. My understanding is that the show wanted to take Hershel's stability out of the equation and thrust the characters into a state of chaos, so I understand why they killed. I just hate that it was done by The Governor, who was a poorly crafted one-note--villain. And, to have him beheaded in such a gruesome manner! icon_mad.gif
