Drug abuse - confounding signs

Recently, I met an attractive, athletic, perpetually horny, somewhat younger guy who (astonishingly) lives less than a hour's drive from me. I doubt that I'm going to see much more of him though. There are a few things that make me wonder.

    - seems to mostly call in the middle of the night
    - seemed kind of confused or disoriented when we met
    - abrupt mood swings and/or short attention span

These things have got me wondering if he's a tweaker. However, these also seem to be standard characteristics of young homosexuals in the Portland area.

I looked around on-line and found the usual bunch of internet BS. There are lots of "lists of warning signs" for parents who suspect that their teens are on drugs. It looks to me as if most of them are just standard characteristics of teenagers. Someone is doing a sales job or grinding an axe.

I suppose that if I encounter this guy again, I'll just have to ask him about it. Of course, if he is using, I couldn't expect an honest answer.

Anyway, if there is a question to this thread, I guess it's: What do you think about "warning signs" of drug abuse? Are there any reliable ones?

I'd say different depending on the drugs. I've known someone who did cocain + hallucinogens like LSD and LSA, among other random things, but no pot, and he was always twitchy in this weird stiff kind of way. Pot smokers who do it a lot tend to be more dazed than anything else. I'm not sure about what effects each drug has though.

If you want to save yourself a ton of time, albeit imperfectly, just avoid the flakes and you'll cut out a big chunk of users. He sounds flaky.

I used to be attracted to coke heads, having never done it myself and not understanding that their energy wasn't natural. Once I found out they liked coke I'd get mad because I had wasted my time.

If you think he is going to admit his drug use to you....I have but one word...NAIVE!! And I dont think you are...

By the mere fact you are suspicious...is reason enough to MOVE ON...dont deny the RED FLAGS.

Is he doing drugs...OF COURSE HE IS....

calling in the middle of the nite when he should be sleeping... (sign of Tina use)...

Mood swings...(sign of coke and tina use)...

I hired a guy to work for me who had these signs...and he would disappear mon-wed ...after weekend drug binges...

I finally fired him and he admitted to coke abuse...later I discovered it was much worse...Crystal Meth...

    My advice...RUN....run fast...run hard...DONT LOOK BACK!!
