If you ever get the chance, see the film, The Man Who Drove with Mandela, about Cecil Williams and Mandela. Williams was a gay actor and theatre owner who arranged to smuggle Mandela in and out of Johannesburg. Having been caught by the authorities, after a long period under house arrest, Williams was able to escape to England. It is because of Mandela's friendship with Williams, that Mandela insisted on including equal rights for gays under the new South Africa constitution.

His belief in justice and equality for all gave him superhuman strength.
We will all continue to learn from his life.

95 years is a good life and to spending it fighting for the rights of people around you, people you don't know, what an honorable life he lived. Now a new generation must continue his work.

    From Muhammad Ali:

"I am deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Mandela. His was a life filled with purpose and hope; hope for himself, his country and the world. He inspired others to reach for what appeared to be impossible and moved them to break through the barriers that held them hostage mentally, physically, socially and economically. He made us realize, we are our brothers' keeper and that our brothers come in all colors. What I will remember most about Mr.Mandela is that he was a man whose heart, soul and spirit could not be contained or restrained by racial and economic injustices, metal bars or the burden of hate and revenge. He taught us forgiveness on a grand scale. His was a spirit born free, destined to soar above the rainbows. Today his spirit is soaring through the heavens. He is now forever free."

I like what David Cameron said: "Not just a hero of our time, but a hero of all time."

Few have ever possessed the capacity for forgiveness that Nelson Mandela did.

Sad the passing of such an inspiration to many.

I like the headline from the Onion:

"Nelson Mandela becomes the first politician who will be missed"
