Although you wouldn't know it by the news media's fawning over Kate Middletons' jewelry selection and 23 hour news coverage of Neslon Mandela's passing:

Today is National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

Yes and there should be more media attention to this important day in a respectable manner not in store sales at the mall. We should always remember the sacrifice of American servicemen on that fateful day in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Is it asking too much for Americans to take time out from their Christmas shopping idiocy and remember those who served and lost their lives on this day of infamy.

Did the United States know about Pearl Harbor before it happened?

The US government wanted to get into the war to boost the armaments industry and consequently all the other industries ! Remember, the USA was still reeling from the Great Depression of 1929.
But they needed an excuse, because people are not going to want to go to war to make the big guys richer.
They had been deciphering the Japanese codes and were aware that an attack was imminent, but they did nothing to warn their troops!
Why? Because that provided the perfect excuse for the USA to get in the War.
USA capitalism thrives on war, sorry to say. It was the same reason why they got into the Iraq War! And Vietnam and etc!
It seems that History keeps repeating itself...."

The Answer was earth shattering then and still is, to this very day.....

FDR moved the Pacific Fleet from San Diego to Pearl Harbor in order to tempt Japan to invade.

Every year on this day is remembrance of Pearl Harbour. Mandela, however, only dies once, and then will no longer be remembered annually in this manner.

Pearl Harbor is much like our 9/11, but just an earlier generation. I can remember my grandmother talking about what she was doing when she heard about the attack that Sunday morning.....

Never met a nutty conspiracy theory you didn't love, did you. Especially if it puts a liberal in a bad light. Idiot.

I'm actually surprised he said FDR and not President Obama.

it sounds like another conspiracy theory with no evidence just the need to find someone guilty....
and if the usa havent enterd then ,was it a good thing for the world? or ,and thats the real conspiracy, the u.s should have enterd much earlier, with what we know about what was going in europe in thouse days.

I believe it. WW2 was the only thing that got the world out of depression and it destroyed much of the world's industrial capacity. The US was extremely isolationist at the time (both parties) and needed an incentive to join the war. The ensuing rebuild of Europe and Japan didn't even fully end the Depression. So much happened during and directly after WW2 we will never know about.

So yeah, I definitely buy it

I never said it was a bad thing that FDR did. FDR did it because he had promised democrat liberals that he wouldn't enter the war in order to win the 1940 election.

Its a little late to rewrite history this old Aristoshark. The alternative explanation is that FDR made a stupid mistake when be ordered the fleet be moved to Pearl.

FDR ordered the fleet be moved against the advice of the US Navy.

    Aristoshark, try rewriting this history:

Try explaining how 5 million people have had their health insurance cancelled after Obama said they could keep it, period.

Try explaining why Obama is trying to increase US Foreign Aid to Nigeria from 230 to over 600 million. The punishment for being gay in Nigeria is death by stoning.

Try explaining why Obama handed Pakistan 1.6 Billion in US Foreign Aid last month. The punishment for being gay in Pakistan is 2 years to life imprisonment.

Try explaining why Obama promised last week to fund a cure for HIV from existing resources. He's been in office for 5 years and could have done this in 2009.

Try explaining why single men's health insurance now has to pay for maternity, pediatric and womens birth control benefits.

Try explaining why Obama gets a free yearly PSA test for prostate cancer which isn't free for men under Obamacare.

As sad as it seems. But America had to become involved in WWII, as much as it did not want to, and then it all come to pass.

There was a beneficial side-effect of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

Nimitz, the admiral in charge of the Pacific Fleet, favored the at that time new concept of aircraft carriers, but there were a lot of mossback admirals that wanted to stick with the behemoth battleships. After the Pearl Harbor attack (when we lost most of our battleships) Nimitz was able to get FDR and King (head US Navy guy) to fund rebuilding the Pacific fleet based on carriers instead of battleships.
