It's supposed to be the coldest night here in Eugene since 1972. It's gonna go down to 3 degrees they say. With wind chill, that could fall into the negatives. It snowed over 6 inches. It's miserable here.

What's going on where you're at? Freezing rain? Power outages? Highway closures? Are you keeping warm?

Welcome to my world. Supposed to be zero F tonight with wind chill -30. Weather more typical of February. But still warm compared to winters in Michigan or the Dakotas.

Got the fire blazing and the block heaters plugged in on the trucks. Would be a great telescope night, if I didn't mind freezing my balls off.

There was some rain earlier that tapered off, but it's still freezing at 43 degrees. Pulled out my robe and will be getting an extra blanket.

On the love seat nursing a beer w/a down comforter over me and the pup up and under it watching the Blazers loose icon_sad.gif Wood stove is stuffed and damped down throwing a ton of heat. The dogs and cats are all jockeying for the key space in front of it. I woke up at 130am this morning and both the dogs and cats were on the bed w/me. I slept warm and toasty. Heater cats/Labs rock lol
14F degrees last night (wind chill 4 degrees)for the low and 11F tonight. No wind though so less risk of the power going out. If it did I'd have to get this old mofo kerosene heater running and put it in the well house. I really do not want the well to freeze.

    That would suck.

This summer I got a hot water recirculating pump. It goes on the hot water heater where the hot water comes out. The plumber also put something under the sink on the faucet that was farthest away from the hot water heater. I've never taken the time to understand how it works but it keeps the hot water moving in the hot water pipes so when you turn on the hot water it comes out hot within a few moments.

We're only getting down to the mid 20s.

I also got an electric mattress pad; I think it was mindgarden that was raving about his which is what prompted me to get one (my electric blanket was old and getting weak as well). I really like it.

Well, we just passed zero. The pump house is half a mile away from the house. usually it's the narrow tube that runs up to the pressure switch that freezes. But you don't know that until hours later when the pressure tank empties and the pump fails to come on I thought I had it all wrapped up with heat tape and insulation icon_sad.gif probably fucking mice.

Ahhh! South Florida in December. There's something about Christmas and Coconut palms that just hearkens to my childhood. I remember my little neighborhood in Northern Dade County (before it was called Miami-Dade County) where we used to shake the trees to make one drop. Us children would squeal with delight as we would use a rock to rip open the husk and then crack the nut on the sidewalk. We would usually lose most of the coconut water, but we would get most of the meat.

Very cold in the Bay Area, relatively speaking. I actually saw ice on the ground in the flatlands during a morning run Thursday. That almost never happens! I guess it was 30 in Berkeley.

I'm not sure if my heater works because I've never turned it on. I'm not actually even sure how to turn it on...

Lows of -1°F here tonight! It feels frigid and I even grew up somewhere where temperatures this cold were not uncommon, and went to university where it's even colder. Stay warm, everyone! It's supposed to warm up come Tuesday. icon_biggrin.gif

Currently 18 degrees below zero with a windchill of 36 below zero. Got up to a balmy 9 below zero for the high on Saturday. At least we got our snowstorm mid-week when it was still somewhat warm. The sad part is that December isn't even our coldest month.

Ah, c'mon. Wind chill is fake. icon_razz.gif

The weather announcers just made it up to sound more impressive.

I wish we could all just know that, say, 3 degrees, regardless of windchill, is cold. But instead we use wind chill (and heat index) to inflate the temperatures to sound more extreme. Soon people are going to get so used to hearing about wind chill that we'll need to add something else to catch everyone's attention.

Its chilly in the Bay Area...many of the locals are saying its the coldest its been in 20 years. I am originally from NJ so this is nonsense to me, I got heat, I own a coat and a hat and I am good!!! The extended weather forecast is calling for 60s again by Wednesdayicon_cool.gif I can't say I am not looking forward to it!!!

It's currently 17 below zero here. Brrr! I couldn't even convince myself to drive to my gym because I couldn't deal with being outside even momentarily. But once it's light out I'll try to work up my motivation. Tuesday I'll be off to San Diego for a conference for a week --- Looking forward to escaping from the cold!

Looks like it is mainly hitting down in your area... We will start getting that snow towards the afternoon.

18 F here. Fortunately, it looks like they've taken the snow out of the forecast for me today, so maybe it will thaw out a bit. It's only supposed to get up to 30, but the sun will be out.

Probably will not be until Monday before it thaws good though. It will get above freezing then.
