Happiness is...

Happiness is not being gay, or lesbian, or straight, or bisexual, or transgendered, transsexual, or any possible permutation of human sexuality.

Happiness comes from living who we really are.

Straights can be as happy as any gay ever was, and vice versa. Likewise with all the GLBT spectrum.

I tried to live straight, when I wasn't. Tension, conflict & misery resulted. I came out gay, and now my life is a joy, more happiness than I have ever known. Not because gay is better than straight, but because it's right for who I am.

That's the truth that many miss, whether straight or gay. Much debate about the merits of orientations, when the only issue is who we are.

I think Nature made some of us GLBT for a purpose, believing in the basic tenets of Darwinian evolution as I do. Humans are social creatures, and the reason for the existence of GLBT members may be found in social needs.

Life wants to be simple, if only we let it. We are GLBT for a purpose, and that purpose makes us happy. When we learn that, and all society learns that, the antagonisms between us will disappear.

Ah, well, here's we go into the lyrics of "Happiness Is" from the musical "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown." But that's OK, I directed a TV production of it. And happiness can be an infinite number of things.

I was thinking of happiness in the terms I stated.

Well, we think we get it, though you said in your opening that
happiness is not being gay, then ended with saying that life wants to be simple, if only we let it, and that being gay has a purpose and that purpose makes us happy.

So we thought about that and thought, well, being happy for us is being the best we can be, and feeling happy with the effort and the results, and that being the best, in relation to the best qualities in a gay person is part of that.

    How'd we do?

Vespa, your thread title is a bit misleading, but I get your point. Of course, we run into barriers for acceptance, such as religion and sexism. If you take those two elements out of our culture, the basis of most if not all resistance to homosexuality goes away.

Of course, we have no choice but to exist on our terms. Nothing changes if we live our lives in the closet or, worse, live a make-belief life of heterosexuality. Things change the more people know gay people. A lot has been made of the black vote on Prop 8 here in California, but another analysis shows if you removed the over 68 year olds, the measure would have failed by a point or two. Younger people get it and the world is changing, though not fast enough.

    Happiness is being me!
Here at RJ, I'm the only fag in the village. I'm content with this, as I'm so loved and accepted out here in the real world, the str8 world, as a pure homosexual. I am accepted, but not by the gay community. Yet acceptance they demand? Yet I have made some friends here at RJ!

All the hills I've had to climb in my life, from severe childhood abuse, for being born a Lutheran Aussie Aristocrat, by my common catholic mother, and her family. From being molested as a wee child, and looking at this as love, as it was to teach me at a young age, sex was love! We all know that sex is nothing more than lust, and not love.

To growing up a homosexual, and the rejection I was to endure from religion. From working for the gay community, in it's darkest years, and all the evil, and wrong doings I seen by a community, I was born into. There was a time I thought I would never get over so much of this, but I have. My life is now brilliant.

Being the person I am, happy and secure within myself, I'm able to endure all the hate and abuse I have here, and it lets me know, it would be no diffrent out here, if I was a member of the gay community, because I'm diffrent, to most gays.

    I am me,
    I am one.
I am content, and my life is brilliant.

Unconditional love from my 3 dogs, and true love from my two husbands..
I look back at all the trails and tribulations, I've been forced too endure in life, and I'm not bitter, or angry, or lonely. I know people who have not had to endure half as much as I have, and they are also half the man too. Helps me see, I've come out of it all OK.

    My life is brilliant.

With all that said. Death is still nothing more than another appointment I have to keep. I am accepting death is a part of living, and we begin to die from the moment of birth.

Happiness is a result of actions and decisions one makes that cause pleasure. Do things that you enjoy.
    Simple enough.
