Just started watching the first series on DVD and absolutely love it. Part good entertainment with believable (mostly) characters, part ethnographic study of (a subset of) American culture. Any other fans on RJ?
I'm a fan of the cinematography employed by Peter Berg. It's nice to see a sports-oriented show focus on real characters with real problems instead of the sport being a panacea that will magically resolve all their problems as many movies would like us believe. Unfortunately when it was moved to DirectTV I haven't been able to follow it. I hope to catch it again when NBC rebroadcasts it.
jjon, you should talk to my buddy RJ. He's a big fan. He got me hooked over the summer. It was all we watched when we hung out at his place and he has the first two seasons on dvd. You can catch him under krakajak. I'm surprised he hasn't seen this post or even started it. LOL.
I started watching it to learn more about how (some) normal Americans live (mind you, I have a few American friends but they aren't really a representative sample...) but after a few episodes got sucked into it. Probably the first TV series where I actually care about the people's fates. And, some of the guys aren't bad looking :-)
I just caught the fifth episode of season 4 "The Son". It's probably one of the best FNL episodes ever. Zach Gilford deserves an Emmy for how well he portrayed Matt Saracen's grief and love-hate relationship with his absent father. Unfortunately he's only listed as a guest star this season. What's up with that?
I'll have to admit that I'm intrigued with the new Luke Cafferty guy, if only because he's hot. Not to mention a gratuitous shirtless scene.
