I not asham to admit that I could use some color. I hardly ever tan, because I burn. Lately I've heard of these "mistic" tans at tanning salons, and have been considering it. But, I'm curious if they actually work?

I've done it (Mystic Tan) once and never again. I came out ok because it sort of matched my complexion, but my partner looked utterly ridiculous. He seriously looked like he was an extra in Dances With Wolves or something - a mess!

I'm sorry, I think the whole concept is ridiculous.... if it had some redeeming quality or healthful benefit, I might have a different reaction.

But seriously. They do work and they don't make you orange. Doesn't last as long as a tanning bed but is lesser on the potential down the road cancer risks.

Most people seem to use spray on tans just prior to vacationing. If your like me and you burn its a safe alternative to building up a tint so you don't burn when first getting real sun.

While Mystic tan, and its variations can be very affective and safe, you'd do better to take melanton (http://www.tanresearch).

Discovered by ASU in skin cancer research, like testosterone, estrogen, or other hormone, it WORKS, as opposed to junk you might find in a store.

You bet your ass they work. Coming from someone that has had many spots removed from his back that where cancerious from UV tanning beds. My only choice now is spray tans. Only I will agree they are hit and miss depending on what salon you go to.

The best is where you can get airbrushed by a real person. No patchy spots. And you get to strip down infront of them. The chick was kinda surprised to see me in my lil black g string. She was like um most guys wear their boxers....lol

why does everyone have to be tan?

    i never understood that.

I appreciate a nice tan from vacation and all, but I don't understand why people go out of their way to spend time and money getting a tan.

there are different levels of mystic tan. the people that look obvious are going for the darker level when they should go with a lighter level.

I tan pretty well and don't usually have to go too many times if I need a quick tan. I've been kinda scared of looking like an orange with the spray job..

If you build yourself up you'll tan without burning.. just add a minute onto each session.

I'd pass up the spray tan and get your hands on some Mexi-tan.
I use it in the summer and it works pretty well, plus it is natural and organic ingredients.

Perhaps the science has changed, but when I tried it many years ago it was a disaster.

Not only did I look orange, like in the pics here, but when I went to the beach to get a real tan and started to peel a bit, I looked like an orange & white Dalmatian dog.

    They do work.

But the secret is, do it in moderation and only go a couple of shades darker than you normal skin colour, otherwise it looks orange (see pics above....young gay guys, they're their own worse enemy).

some of the places around here will let you try a "test patch" for like $5 - they spritz your back or someplace where nobody will really see .. and that way you can determine if you'll be bronze or oompa-loompa colored...

I've seen pale friends with fake tans and they looked really convincing - excepts for some buildup on their hands and knees, which I'm told is quite normal. A cheaper alternative might be to try one of those body lotions that have a gradual tanning effect, just to see if you like the look before getting the Mystic treatment.
