Sounds like he ran afoul of company policy before A&E suspended him. Of course, gays are never tossed from a job for being gay, so I can totally empathize with the indignity he and his fans must feel.

This infographic is bullshit, by the way. The outrage is manufactured by the same media who made this mouth breather a star, and the fans are being played like a fiddle. Does our media spend any time on those real outrages listed on the graphic? No, this faux controversy is soooo much easier and more lucrative.

Agreed... the outrage is fueled (or not) by the media that presents it.

To be fair, out of everything the graphic shows, the Duck Dynasty Debacle is the only news point that is a US Domestic Item... the rest are foreign events, so the US would likely be "more aware" of Duck Dynasty anyway.

This is the epitome of the concept of "First World Problems".

It's about a mostly college-educated family whose men grew bushy mountain beards, and who all wear hunting clothes, even the wives, so they can sell their duck calls to genuine rednecks, and who parlayed their contrived backwoods look into a US TV reality show about their phony lives.

Even Phil's Christian fundamentalism may be an exaggerated act to gain publicity, and sympathetic sales from their like-minded hunter customers. Only he seems to have overdone it with the wrong audience in GQ, trying to play the anti-gay card like many US right-wing politicians do.

Certain places simply have more influence than others. The danger is in losing an almost won battle. Poor countries rooted in a savage religion are much harder to correct and protest against, these places have far bigger problems so boycotting isnt nearly as effective, what they need is proper schools. However, countries where people ARE educated, have with a decent quality of life, are civil and grew up with a slight amount of common sense, theres no excuse for anyone to behave like they've been in a coffin for the last 100 years, bitches aint dracula.

I live in the south where this is huge. Art's analysis is spot on.

My FB has likely blown up more than many of yours with all the rants about how unfair it is... even from the most liberal friends. However, they have pointed out how to me that this Phil guy has been saying that he wanted off the show and this is likely a big publicity stunt - strategically timed at Christmas to get him out of his contract and at the same time boost sales of the ridiculous amount of merchandise on all the store shelves.

That's what I think is happening.

I really don't care at this point. Every time a post about Duck Dynasty tops my newsfeed, I am posting a Christmas Song just to annoy everyone.

Or it was an extremely shrewd PR move orchestrated by the network choosing exactly the right venue (GQ) to voice opinions that could then be exploited for shock value to not only boost A&E ratings, but GQ magazine sales. Do I sound cynical? icon_wink.gif

It truly is an ugly graphic. The phallic quality of the thermometer is intriguing (almost ironic but definitely iconic). I don't know what Duck Dynasty is either and don't give a fuck, agreeing that whatever controversy there is here, it is media driven.

WhyWhySee saidIn typical Sun News fashion, the not so hidden message here is that we should be boycotting Saudi oil in favour of "Ethical" Canadian tar sands oil. This will be less obvious to non-Canadians who are unfamiliar with "Fox News North".

Ah! I knew there was a logical explanation! I was like, "I would expect this from Faux News, but why is Sun butting in?"

I just can't believe anyone is surprised a redneck said something rednecky.

I dont care if duck dynasty man said what he said. That's fine with me. He does not affect me. I dont even watch duck dynasty. I've never even seen an episode.

Doesn't he quack like a duck? like wtf else would one expect from a duck dynasty person?
