Must be how they get away with it for so long. (Of course there are plenty of less attractive killers also)

Interesting psychological science here. I've read that many killers get away with killing for many years because (before their deeds are known) are considered to be reasonably attractive. Because of their outward appearance, it is easier for them to blend in and be considered "normal" than it would be for someone considered less attractive. People are more at ease around people they find attractive.

I wouldn't call any of these guys "hot", but I thought they were fair examples of the point above. Before being caught, nobody thought they were about to commit a mass murder or a string of serial killings...

thebearerofbadnews saidhonestly, i think it's just the media selecting certain individuals to focus on out of a larger population possibly to make a subliminal statement. there's plenty of serial murderers that get NO publicity because they aren't seen as marketable in terms of selling a news story or getting ratings. the media is grimey like that.

Yes indeed, think of all the column inches Amanda Knox got (not that she wanted them). An even more disturbing variation is the level of attention paid to missing children depending on how "cute" they are. Just terrible.

yeah... to even dig further to what you said, race plays MAJOR part with her the media shifts its coverage on missing children too.

He wasn't really psycho and not a psycho killer. The former Iranian president. His politics were bogus but I liked his face.

Sometimes, it's just the horrific nature of the crime that makes headlines. John Wayne Gacy was an ugly fucker, but his crimes were so horrific that his crimes connected with people in a lasting way. Charles Manson looks like a bad comic book villain, but like Gacy his crimes were horrific, including the Sharon Tate murder.

I was not familiar with the crimes of the African-American man pictured above, so I would have to agree with the point made about race, at least in his case. He was a strikingly attractive man, too bad he turned out to be a monster...

Wow, I never realized how much Bundy looks like a cross between Adam Levine and "Phil" from "Modern Family."

Not gonna bother posting links but there have already been several "hot serial killer/terrorist threads," but yours is more thoughtful than most!
