I've been making tacos with turkey meat at home for over 20 years. I put ground turkey in a sauté pan, along with a powdered taco seasoning mix. But instead of adding water per the recipe I use an identical amount of low-salt beef broth, reducing it down over the heat as I would the water, until the ground turkey has the correct consistency.

The finished meat looks and tastes very much like beef, and makes a good taco. And, I believe, a healthier one.

As much as I like turkey in general, I've never liked ground turkey.

Say it aint so... Hopefully the quality of their ground turkey is better than what I got from the grocery store (bland with a gritty texture).. As long as they don't mess with that strawberry shake, all is wellicon_biggrin.gif

There is ground turkey, and also ground turkey breast in most US supermarkets. Breast is more expensive, but might have the taste you would prefer. Generic ground turkey can include just about any meat off the bird, and typically has more fat.

If it's seasoned properly, it works well. Brand also matters, there are some lower quality brands that don't taste good at all.

It should be interesting. I know plenty of others who don't like it, but I personally like ground turkey...er, turkey in general.

Me, too. Though when I was a kid in the 1950s turkey was indeed like eating dry cardboard, with Thanksgiving and other US holidays when it might be served becoming a real test of your dedication to tradition.

But today's turkeys are raised and prepared in ways that give you a much better eating experience, and it's a fairly healthy food. I now look forward to holiday turkey, rather than dreading it, and will eat it at other times, as well.

And speaking of which, this thread prompted me to buy some ground turkey and make crunchy hard shell tacos on Thursday. I also wanted to try out a new power shredder/grater we got, that I used for the cheese stick and the head of lettuce.

Even *I* was impressed! (Line from "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum") But I didn't like using the sauté pan we have, so I bought a better one yesterday (on after-Christmas sale). I batch-made the grated cheese and shredded lettuce, saving the extra, along with some unused ground turkey, so I'll be making turkey tacos again very soon. icon_biggrin.gif

Soo, I finally tried them, OMG, I like them better than the beef! a lot less dry than the beef too
I hope they add them to Tuesday Taco night specials as they were not part of this promo icon_sad.gif

I've been making ground turkey burritos (with brown rice instead of yellow, Greek yogurt instead of sour cream and whole grain tortillas) for years:

Instead of tacos I make burritos with flourless sprouted whole grain Ezekiel wraps...

...because when they're lightly pan-heated they're both soft and crunchy, a satisfying tortilla/taco shell hybrid:

Just remember to roll 'em quick before they harden!

Turkey tacos are where it's at! Why is Del Taco so late to this party... those burritos look pretty damn good too though.
