    Definitely not a complete list.

My biggest pet peeve is when customers demand attention. I'm walking down the restaurant with 6 plates that each want their half eaten burger wrapped individually, trying to remember whose belongs to whose, thinking about my earlier table who is waiting for a main coarse to come out, watching my new table read the menu so I don't keep them waiting to long when their ready and you have to either snap at me or wave because your cola is half finished and you want a refill because it's tasting too watery.
    Fuck you

I used to be a server.

I hate it when they told me "We're in a rush"

I'm all like "Nigga, I don't care. You should go to McDonalds then..."icon_lol.gif

I went on a date with this guy (Jeremy) back in 2006 (it was a cute trendy seafood place in Marina Del Rey)! He was kind of a diva! He ordered something, the waiter got it wrong! He sent back the item 3 times and he told me to Not tip him afterwards! I was annoyed, I was like it wasn't that bad, I felt bad for the waiter (whom was nice to me, got my order right and smiled the entire time)! I paid the $56 dinner bill and gave him a $7 tip! He gave me grief for tipping that waiter! God, that relationship lasted 2 months because as I gotten to know him better, he became too much of a diva/mean for me to handle! So I fled!! LOL, I guess that was the red flag/sign huh!!

A $7 tip on a $56 check? Oh, trust me, babe: that waiter hated you. If he gave you guys good service, you should've given him at least $11.20.

I know, right? Being a server can really shake your faith in humanity sometimes. I've never been in the company of more neurotic douchebags in my life.

Lol, that wasn't our first date, more like 4th date, 4 weeks going in! (I hung out at his place that night, we kinda made up). Well I went for the 10% tip standard back then (I didn't request much, just felt bad for the waiter went back 3 times for his meal)! I didn't want to judge him too quick after that, you know, I really liked him and tried to gave it more time to develop feelings!!! But yeah he just became more mean to me! so I finally gave up!

I was about 25 at the time, young and inexperienced in the gay dating scene! But yeah I agreed with you! It doesn't take much to be kind to the waiting staff!!

10% standard tip? I always thought standard was 15%.

Personally, I understand being a waiter can be hard, and at times people can go to extremes, but some of these things can be silly things to be pissed off about. Do waiters really get mad because someone slips their number or message on the receipt? Just ignore it and move on. I actually thought they might like something to break up the normal routine. Coins spend like any other type of money, and you can probably go to the register, and exchange it for bills pretty easily. One person shows up before the other 9? Make a policy that says you can't be seated until at least half the party is there.

And sometimes it's like waiters need to see their customers more as people, and not as sacks of money.

When someone can see the pub is fucking full and is like can I get a drinks order.

I'm like fucking get up and go to the bar you pricks, it's there for a reason, and I'm sure your stingy ass aint giving me a tip for table service either. So no, I'm not gonna wait for 5 Guiness to settle and then lug them back to your table through a crowd that would put the Saturday headliner of Coachella to shame.

+++++ agree +++++ Very important cue. And frankly I don't care as much about how he or she treats me as I care about how they treat other people.

I would never have believed it either until someone actually snapped his fingers at the waiter on a dinner date. Needless to say, there were no more dates.
Whatever anger the waiter felt, it was no worse than what I felt.

I have heard of people taking their children to a restaurant and saying to them, in front of the waiter "now make sure you study hard for your exams or you might end up like this guy". Never seen it personally, but I know of people it happened to...

    ^No!
This reminds me of when I did some telemarketing. I'm a computer orogrammer but was out of work for a while. There were no jobs. I sent out hhundreds of resumes... nothing. So I took a job as a Telemarketer so I'd be doing something besides collecting unemployment.
A few people (just a few) told me to get an education and get a real job. It would have been humiliating but I know how to handle rude people. I just laughed and told them how much I love my job and that I was making lots of money. Waiters should do the same. As they say, living well is the best revenge.

Yes! When people get a discount, coupon, gift certificate or whatever and they only tip for the amount that they paid...Your order was $80 and with your discount, you paid $40, so your only tipping me $5 bucks...?
Working in Jasper Alberta during the summer, lots of people would do that. Fairmont, where the rich are rich cause they are cheap. I made more tips from people who weren't even guests staying there then the actual guests who paid $800+ a night. At fairmont 4.5% of all your sales is deducted from your paycheck. I'm a good server, I can take people looking down their noses at me, snapping their fingers, but when I walk home some nights owing the restaurant money for tip out its hard to smile at rude belligerent people.
Worst experience: $15 tip for serving them an $500 meal over the course of 2 1/2hours, plus a bottle of Rothschild, while they stay in an $1800 a night room. Though writing a bravo gram about me to my boss was kinda nice, I lost $60 out of my pocket to that single table.

I feel so sorry for a lot of restaurant staff. They need to pay their employees a proper fucking wage.

I waited tables in college and for about a year after (I graduated in the last jobless 'Great Recession'). Yes, it can suck and maybe this will reach some of people who act like morons when eating out. My experience in the waitron biz impacts my behavior with staff almost 20 years later.

HOWEVER...you can write an article on 16 ways to piss off your attorney, doctor, psychotherapist, flight attendant, dry cleaner, etc. People are people and come in all shape, sizes, personality types and emotional disorders. It's just how it is. icon_rolleyes.gif
