Yes, if you don't want your kids accessing gay sites, you are a "hater" huh? Grow up already!

Oh, and I find this amusing, from the "article" (if you can even dignify it with such a label):

Two of the companies known to be involved are supportive of gay rights in public, scoring 100% in the US Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index.

Just goes to show what nonsense this "Equality Index" really is if Dell is giving a "gift to haters."

Filtering anything has to be very difficult on todays internet. There will always be far reaching over-bounds included. A filter that gives the user a maximum 'word' option rather than a specific 'segment' would be much more flexible.

Haters are always going to hate, regardless of the filtering and chances are that those who are filtering are going to have the kids that figure out how to get around it anyway.

That's cool. I don't think everybody has to like gay.

    Hate away!

Is this the secular version of "pray the gay away?"

Run of the mill haters won't be using this. Why would they block the fuel that feeds their hate?

Hater parents of gay kids will use this to attempt blocking their kids from knowing that being gay is natural and normal.

This is horrible. HRC should downgrade such companies at once.

I know, why don't we create a petition and then post the link to it here so everyone can sign up to protest Dell and then we'll all feel so good!

Yeah, we know you reflexively support anything the crazy right-wing does or says, Southbeach. You're kind of predictable.

Because there is a difference between "hate" and "discretion" - something that is lost on rabid gays.

Watching you is like watching Archie Bunker only in reverse. You just shrink from bad to worse. At least he learned and grew.

Congratulations, Dell! You have finally realized the only people willing to buy your computers are the geezers.

It's "No Gay Sites" today, and automatic enrollment into AARP tomorrow. The day after tomorrow, the guy from Jeopardy is going to sell you reverse mortgages.

You do know that Apple products are assembled in Chinese sweatshops, yes? And that workers in their factories in China have committed suicide?

Hum, I'm not in favour of censorship, but I am in favour of children being offered age appropriate websites. I'm not sure I'd want a pre-pubescent child surfing anything sexual, with the proviso that if I had a child of that age I'd want to be doing the surfing with them so if anything cropped up I could explain it.

Unfortunately some parents aren't any good at the explaining life lark.

Fuck off, how is being gay automatically sexual? If so Dell should offer option to ban all the straight sites too. Of I see they cant!

Very disappointed, I hope this is just a slip.

That gets to the heart of the matter.

Article: "It means sites which have no sexual content can be blocked – including in workplaces, schools, colleges and other public places. Even sites which provide support to vulnerable LGBTI kids and adults are openly included in the system."

The attitude is somewhat understandable but not at all acceptable.

What is says is that because we've been excluded from the conversation for so long (like, for practical purposes, eternity) that str8 people forget that they are being sexual beings whenever they discuss their own sexuality, i.e. their marriages, their having children, you know, the products and expressions of sex. Their own sexuality has become so run of the mill for them that they don't notice it. And so they think their kids don't notice it either when the whole while they are engraining heterosexuality into their kids while at the same time inducing the message that any other sexuality is outside that realm of normalcy.

So they think that it's just when people mention something gay--even if that mention is not overtly sexual as in expressions of a hard on--that the mention of gay is suddenly sex to be silenced but that the mention of str8 somehow is not, even though, of course, it is the very same thing.

So this gay website blocking tool is Dell cybernizing Russia's anti gay law...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_Russia
...that bans the distribution of "propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations" to minors...

    Fuck Dell for that.

Seems like Dell is simply providing a tool and it is not at all pre-enabled to block GLBT sites, as stated by a Dell spokesman:

‘Dell SonicWALL security products offer a multitude of content filtering options that help connection owners make choices to allow or not allow access of certain sites based on business and organization needs.

‘The gay and lesbian content filter is part of a filter category that represents many different topics of interest. Our goal is to provide choices to our customers, allowing access to what they need so they can ensure a productive and efficient environment for their users.

‘We make no judgment on our customers’ filter choices, we never deny access to any sites, nor do we pre-populate a block on any sites, including gay and lesbian sites.’

I wouldn't buy any other computer other than an APPLE product anyway, so I don't really care what DELL does since they have never gotten a dime of my money --- and never will. That said, I don't really see a problem with people if they prefer to filter out certain material they don't want to see. Everyone has different tastes. To each's own.
