Rude Family Members During the Holidays

My cousin said I couldn't join in on a dominos game they started because they were keeping score --which was fine-- but when her bf asked to join in later in hushed tones (as if I wasn't there). She said he couldn't play because she didn't want me to play! This cousin lives in a different state, so I rarely see her, but I didn't realize how rude she was.

Alcohol will solve situations like this.

    Or escalate them.

I've got a rotten family member - a druggy, homophobic, anger case brother - who still lives at home with our mother - even though he's past 50! I've put up with his b.s. for years and tried to sit through family functions where he was allowed to run roughshod over people (especially me). Guess what? After all these years, I decided I wasn't putting up with it anymore, so a few years ago - I began refusing to be around the homophobic anger case. I just decided I've got no time or energy to deal with spoiled mama's boys anymore. My holidays are good now!

Power to you for standing up to that toxic situation with your brother!

These were the first words she said to me, so unless it was a really long spell of humor, I do not think she was joking.

I find it hard to get on with elderly female relatives, they can be very nasty while smiling at everyone. Stuff like that ^^.

I've got one for you guys..

When my brother wasn't having a dig at how much money I earn his wife went on to say that I'm obligated to buy presents for her daughter n because I'll never have kids she'll never have to buy for me. Hence no Christmas presents for me at all this year.

And my family wonder why I don't spend much time with them. Lol

Ask for proof he is the father before you make that kind of financial commitment.

Hahaha. I'm not that's the thing. They just don't like the holidays I take.

Ohno luv it. I think I'll just save my money and spend it on me. At least I know it's appreciated. Lol

Here's one that'll draw a few, "Oh yeahs!": Married, but childless middle sister lives across street in 2 BR house from Dad, where we all gather to visit and celebrate Xmas, 6 of us crammed into 3 BRs. She's got WiFi; Dad doesn't - but refuses to let anyone either stay at her house or bring their computers over to check email, update, etc. (Holiday Greetings from Panera Bread!) Top that off w/ low-roll, often recycled Xmas gifts, constant monitoring/accounting of who buys what in terms of food, combined with stingy offerings of leftovers, and you've got the menu for not too many more Xmases spent with her. Thoughts? Ideas? Hurry my return flight to SDiego!

Yeah I don't enjoy talking to people who hide behind their age to create legitimacy for their annoying comments/opinions. I'm sorry, being old doesn't make you right. While I won't disrespect them, openly disagreeing with someone, tactfully of course, doesn't make me the bad guy.....

Why yes I do Grandma but for some godforsaken reason I chose to spend it with a nasty old bitch. Rest assured, I won't make that mistake next year.

Man you're 61 years old! For how long have you been putting up with that bullshit?!

I don't understand the mindset that just because you're relatives you have to be up each others asses year after year, epsecially if you don't enjoy the company. Go on a cruise next year.
