How did A&E justify its decision to flip-flop on the “Duck Dynasty” flap? (um, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$)?

It's called publicity. I for one, never knew of such a show about alleged bogans.

Lifting the suspension was entirely predictable considering what a cash cow DD is for A&E.

Duck Dynasty and Duck Commander profited by getting a view and sales spike based on all the publicity.

There was little justification for the suspension. A&E executives knew the Robertsons' political and religious views before creating the show. Both sets of views are conservative, and it was only a matter of time before someone made an issue of it. A&E had to have known that.

DD viewers (who are generating millions of $ for DD and A&E) share those views, and expressed it by doing a run on DD/DC merchandise. Money talks and A&E got the message.

The big losers in this entire debacle are the people of GLAAD who come off as jack-booted, self-righteous thugs who are all for tolerance for themselves, but are completely intolerant of people expressing opposing views.

So then, what about free speech for the gays people in the following States? They can be fired for saying they're gay on their own time.

I'm glad they brought him back. The face of homophobia remains pinned onto equally as racist hicks. The entire show is about backwoods idiots, so might as well dub him the leader of it. It's easier to discredit homophobia when the champion of it's only argument is "But I like vaginas, I don't get it."

"And while we're on that subject, the other big loser is GLAAD, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Discrimination, which showed how far it had strayed off the path of encouraging tolerance into the dark woods where conformity is enforced by witch hunts and demands for blood sacrifices. GLAAD's intolerance sparked what its leaders called the worst backlash they'd ever seen — a backlash that included prominent members of the gay community such as Andrew Sullivan and Camille Paglia."

I think the shows premise is ridiculous, and that ALL "reality" shows are staged. But A&E has the right to associate with anyone they wish. The market will sort this out. I expect in 3 years, this show will be a thing of the past...

I'll watch Pawn Stars occasionally and a few shows on Velocity, but that's about all the time I have for it. Oh and of course Fox News to stay 'informed'. icon_wink.gificon_wink.gificon_wink.gif

But, I'm mostly a reader because I can read and absorb much faster than I can listen to someone talk.

Firing on basis of pro-gay speech is unacceptable too. If the outcry against anti gay business was as great as against A&E, such firings would be much more rare.

Phil Robertson, get your "women" by 15 or 16, otherwise they are too old and just want your money. What a pig!

Certainly can't say I'm surprised. This smelt like a publicity stunt from the beginning. It's pretty disgusting that we allow figures like this to even have a television show, and even more disgusting that a huge amount of people supported him. icon_mad.gif
