Are these genuine brand name blades, or Chinese patent & trademark infringement rip-offs? Or no-name knock-offs?

I just gave my husband a $600 shaving set for Christmas (Aristoshark was with me when I was shopping for it), and a large supply of Gillette Fusion blades for it. I'm not about to give him some inferior crap to use with that.

Until the quality and sources here are known (and that this isn't some kind of parody fake video), I'm not rushing to buy these things.

This is appalling. In this day and age, when so many people are suffering around the world, to spend $600 on something that produces the same results as something that you can purchase of a few dollars is the height of insensitivity.

Now I am sure you will list all your philanthropic efforts in an effort to deflect, but to me, if you have so much extra money lying around to be able to spend on such an extravagance, you should re-evaluate your proiorities.

    It appears to be real.

    http://www.dollarshaveclub.com/how-it-works

There are three different plans. The least expensive is $1 per month plus $2 shipping. It includes 5 cartridges per month and 2 stainless steel blades. As you go through the menu you can purchase other items, like shave butter and wipes. I wouldn't do it but it's a cute idea.

Now how would you know about my gay philanthropic efforts, if you just joined RJ a few days ago? Couldn't be that you're the banned southbeach, could it?

If you're gonna criticize me for spending $600 on my husband, then by all means also tell us about $100,000,000 mega-yachts & homes owned by Right Wing business people. And million-dollar bonuses for failed Wall Street executives during the Bush financial meltdown.

But as usual you're trying to derail & trash a thread simply because I posted to it. Unfortunately for you, most of RJ is on to you, southbeach. Why you are the most banned member on this site.

I don't question how someone spends their own money, but mentioning it publicly in a forum where so many are struggling is nothing short of crass.

Razor blades are another one of those things with ridiculously high markups. A friend of mine tried out the Dollar Shave Club and he said the quality of the razors aren't bad. Probably on par with the generic store brand razors you get at Target and such.

I only shave my throat and that every 2 or 3 days. I change blades about every 3 months, when it starts to get noticeably painful. Then when I start using the new one I'm like, wtf was I waiting so long for? Heh.

But you DO question it. You Right Wingers are so predictable here, and so hypocritical. Did southbeach PE you? He does others, like freedomisntfree, to do his dirty work for him. You've been so inactive here lately, and suddenly you spring to life.

So how come you don't comment about the mega-rich spending hundreds of millions on luxuries, when the same "many" are struggling? My $600 on my husband was just intolerable for you, huh?

And BTW, do you give to charities as generously as I do? (Mostly HIV/AIDS and gay-community related). When you can list your charities here, and even show the pics of them as I do, I suggest you STFU, 'K?

I used a blade to sculpt when I had a beard, and also could make it last a long time. I had to do my upper cheeks, too, though, or else the beard went almost up to my eyes, I'd look like the Wolfman. icon_redface.gif

I still use a blade on my neck, because the electric misses hairs there, and every few days they start getting long. I just run it lightly over, dry, to remove the long hairs, and then run the electric to get it close.

I forgot to mention that I shave my throat while I'm in the shower at the end of my shower, so the hairs are well softened.

    1) I clearly did not question how you spend your money, only your crassness in mentioning it here.

    2) As far as political name-calling, I’m fairly moderate but from your perspective that label is understandable. However, crassness exists with people of all different political viewpoints.

    3) How do you know if I comment anywhere on the spending habits of the mega-rich. Is RJ an appropriate venue? I think not.

    4) More fundamentally, raising the issue of me commenting on their spending habits is a false analogy. I didn’t question your spending habits, but rather your crassness in mentioning it. From all I observe the mega-rich and regular-rich don’t brag about how they spend their money. It’s others who report on them. So your analogy is not appropriate, but that might be a bit subtile.

    5) As far as charity work, I won’t fault you for mentioning it publicly as that might encourage others to do the same, but it is not my style to discuss financial contributions or some of the volunteering I do. For me, doing that privately is more meaningful.

    6) I do advocate for causes and encourage others to contribute, while not mentioning if or how much I contribute. For example, I started a thread on the movie Bridegroom to encourage support to get the movie made. It dealt with problems resulting from same sex marriage not legal and problems with one partner dies unexpectedly. There were a few threads. Maybe I missed it but I never saw you participate.

My monetary comparison was to stress the disparity with the impossibly low cost of these blades, further suggesting that this is a scam.

You are not fairly moderate politically, never have been here. Reminds me of southbeach1500 claiming he was an Independent. Let's not play that game, shall we? Maybe moderate to a rabid Teabagger.

RJ is the universe within which we operate here. You could be Mother Theresa's sister on another site, but I judge by what I can see. Charity work has not been a hot topic before with you here, a new subject area you suddenly raise.

If you wanna promote it, then mention it. But claiming to do something you can't mention is, how shall we say it, a bit suspect? I can claim I flew to the Moon and back yesterday, but it was private and I'm too modest to mention it. icon_rolleyes.gif

I didn't read your post about Bridegroom because I make it a habit not to read any of your posts. Not unless you post on another thread in which I'm participating, like this one. And go out of your way to attack me, as you invariably do. At least you're consistent.

There were other threads on Bridegroom besides mine. Did you support the movie by participating in any of those threats? Doubtful. Too self absorbed without sufficient opportunity to brag.

As I said, I would avoid any topic you started. And what would compel me to open something titled "Bridegroom"? What was I or anyone else supposed to know to "support"?

I did write here about a movie that a friend of mine produced, and was invited to its premier: Amancio: Two Faces on a Tombstone.

It's the true story of a gay female impersonator who was murdered in Yuma, Arizona, in a hate crime. And whose murder was covered-up, until a local Yuma gay man made the case his personal crusade (I met him at the premier).

Did YOU comment about it when I posted it? Have YOU ever seen the movie? Met the producer, director, writer, and the hero in the story? It won many awards. Ever contributed to the foundation that was started in Amancio's memory?

So please, don't try pointing fingers at me for not commenting here about Bridegroom.

I had no idea of what philanthropic efforts you had or had not participated in when I posted. It was a pre-emptive comment that you misinterpreted. If I were to reword it more bluntly for you, here is what it would have said:

Now I am sure you are going to state that you participate in many philanthropic activities and raise big money for charities in an effort to change the subject from the fact that what you posted is in appallingly bad taste.

Is that clearer for you? And I do NOT live in South beach.

No, you never did, the very problem. But nice attempt at playing dumb.

I didn't ask here if you LIVED on South Beach, but if you WERE southbeach. But your clumsy attempt at deflection answers my question, thanks.

But back to the question I asked you above: why is spending $600 on my husband such a great offense, when the mega-rich waste many millions? I mentioned it to contrast against the impossibly low cost of those mail order blades.

Or is it because you exaggerate, distort & misrepresent everything I write? Looking for any opportunity to attack me personally. You keep returning here from your bans with many socks, but your modus operandi is pathetically consistent.

How can someone be a place? I really don't know what you are talking about.

And your attempt to deflect once again by saying, "well others spend a lot of money on expensive things too" doesn't cut it.

It is obscene to spend so much money on an item that can be purchased for a few dollars, while there are probably people living within a mile of you who are going hungry.

And I presume you feel the same about people who buy BMW cars and Mercedes, when they could drive second-hand econoboxes. And someone who spends lots of money collecting old clunkers, say Pontiacs, is totally reprehensible, correct?

That vibe you're getting is from losing the battle. But typically southbeach, when out-maneuvered resort to an ad hominem attack.
