I think it had a name like that, saw it listed this morning because it got a post to it today. (I tend to check threads by the "Updated since last login" filter) I read the post, checked the author's profile, and when I tried to go back to the thread I got a page doesn't exist error message.

Now I can't find it anywhere. Anyone else see it? And why would it have been deleted? A lot less offensive text and pics than hundreds of other threads here, and no flame wars in it as I recall. Several hundred posts down the drain if deleted. icon_sad.gif

Unfortunately, the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution does not extend to "guests" on privately owned internet sites. The "owner(s)" of privately owned internet sites have the right to determine what content and behavior is suitable while we "visit" their "establishment".

It appears that a more Conservative management culture is now in place here on RealJock and we have the choice to abide by the the mores (written and unwritten) of our host(s), we can voluntarily leave and go elsewhere where we can express ourselves as we desire, or we can continue with how we choose to express ourselves and risk being expelled.

This is the nature of a private internet site enterprise.

It is my hope that whatever the RealJock management has in mind "works", brings more members to our community, and provides sustainability in the online community platform. If not, then community members will "vote with their visits" and go elsewhere.

Not the case with the thread. It was active and had been around for quite some time.

Correct, it had several hundred posts, required Admin to delete it, assuming it has been.

Me, too. RJ is my favorite social media site, and I've been a great supporter and promoter of it for years. After all, it's how I met YOU in person. icon_biggrin.gif

And I understand the owner prerogative in deleting threads. I was just surprised that particular one may have been deleted, since it seemed rather inoffensive. I'm trying to remember if anyone slipped in X-rated pics, but it had been a while since I scrolled through it.

I never read the topic. What kind of pictures?

The current admin was going to remove the sex and adult forum as they didn't think they could find a way to keep it separate from the ads and advertisers' money is what keeps the site up.
Then they figured out a way and announced the sex and adult forum would be staying.

So...was the topic full of pics better off in the sex and adult forum? If so, I think it would have been better to just move the topic there.

Well, that could be it, hence this thread asking what happened. If there are new "rules of engagement" then we should know them. And maybe changes need to be made to TOU.

I don't dispute Admin's right to change procedures, if that's what happened, and for them to delete offensive posts. Their site, their rules.

I just think we need some new guidance if they're applying new rules. We operated a certain way for a long time. I can certainly adjust & comply, but a heads-up would be a welcome courtesy, don't you agree?

I hadn't looked at the thread in a while but like you, Art, I don't recall anything particularly objectionable about it.

ADMIN: One thing to note, it isn't always necessary to delete a thread. If you've found a way to keep the "sex and adult" subsection, it is always possible to move what you may regard as "objectionable" to that sub-forum.

In any case I agree that whatever the rules are, they should be clearly and publicly stated so we all *know*! I'm not aware of any content in that thread that broke the TOU of this forum.

I believe "Jeff" said this site is now using a new platform, so not sure what their options are.

But in the past it was possible to remove individual offensive posts from a thread. It wasn't necessary to pull the entire thread, along with the hundreds of other comments RJ members had invested their time & thought into.

If the ability to remove specific posts from a thread still exists, I would urge Admin to consider that option whenever possible, rather than zapping an entire thread containing hundreds of inoffensive posts.

I can't imagine a forum platform without that option. ETA: Even we have the option to delete our own posts so surely the admin does as well.

Hmmm, I wonder why the posts were deleted in addition to the profile.

The profile was deleted? Of the thread OP? I don't know who that was, nor the last person to post, I forgot already.

I don't think I saw it. Can you summarise it in a single post?

I saw it this morning. It's now gone. Strangely enough it had none of the usual flame wars or personal insults that's you generally see around here.

It talked about the young vs. old generational behavioral differences in locker rooms. Young guys are shy, and do the "towel dance". Older guys aren't as shy, and walk around naked.

So we talked about why it was like that, what cultural forces were at work. Really kind of tame, but some guys posted locker room pics, and maybe that was the problem. I dunno.
