Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers Responds To Gay Rumors

“I’m just going to say I’m not gay,” Rodgers said Tuesday on 540 ESPN Milwaukee. “I really, really like women. That’s all I can really say about that.”

    ....

“There’s always going to be silly stuff out there in the media which you can’t worry too much about, and I don’t,” Rodgers said. “So, just, keep on trucking. I think professional should be professional, and personal is personal.”

It would definitely be huge if Rodgers is gay and came out, especially considering his stature in the league. He is easily a top five player.

Not to diminish other athletes' recent coming out events (al la Jason Collins, Robbie Rogers, Orlando Cruz, Tom Daley, etc.), in the realm of mainstream sports (at least in the United States), the NFL is king. Moreover, as alluded above, Rodgers is relevant, in his prime, and probably one of the handful of players that could come out and possible change hearts and minds.

In any event, if he is gay, I would love for him to come out on his own terms. I believe coming out is a very personal experience. Therefore, no one, no matter how famous, so be "force" to come out of the closet. Whether by a disgruntled ex or anyone else.

If he does come out, so what? It'll be just another coming out story! Just because he plays for the NFL does not make it significant.

He'd be the first gay NFL quarterback. It would mean a lot to gay kids who are into sports who aren't out.

^^ When Dave Kopay came out, there wasn't a mass following of running backs stating they wanted to play football. Kids who want to play the sport are interested in role models who are good at their game...not their sexuality.

Who mentioned mass following? Aaron Rogers is a prominent NFL player. If he came out he'd make a great role model for kids into sports & fellow NFL players who are still closeted.
