Anti-gay GOPer Aaron Schock locks down Instagram account as outing rumors swirl

    http://americablog.com/2014/01/2014-looking-gay-old-year-aaron-schock.html

John Aravosis: "Mitt Romney’s national security spokesman, for example, was forced out during the presidential campaign in 2012 when the religious right found out he was gay. And Schock isn’t just a congressman, he’s also reportedly considering a run for the Illinois governorship, which could lead to even greater things. The far-right that controls the Republican party isn’t terribly interested in greater things for homosexuals.

They aren’t even interested in greater things for people who support gay people. In Illinois, the head of the Republican party recently lost his job simply because he supported gay marriage. Imagine were he to want a gay marriage for himself.

So that might argue for the need to protect Schock’s sexual orientation since, in fact, Schock might be harmed professionally by its revelation.

Aaron Schock is responsible for any harm his sexual orientation causes him...

But here’s the rub. Aaron Schock shares blame for the danger posed to him by his own sexual orientation.

Ever since he was elected to Congress, Aaron Schock gladly partook in, and fed, the Republican party’s virulent homophobia..."

The gist of the article is that gay Republicans tend to be hypocrites. So what's new?

I have mixed emotions about all of this. Who knows if Aaron Schock is gay or not -- personally, I could care less. Granted, if he is gay and he's voting against all of these gay issues, then I certainly don't condone the hypocrisy. However, I feel the whole action of "outing" especially when it's at the hands of other gays, has a certain element of catty/bitchiness that, in my opinion reflects badly on gays as well. I guess it's one thing if someone has hard, indisputable evidence that leaves absolutely no doubt and is laying out the cold hard facts that can be proven by anyone. That's not the case here, as the journalist is mostly relying on vague ambiguities like who Schock follows on Instagram and hearsay of others. Really? Good thing this Itay Hod guy majored in Journalism and not Law.

As relating to Robin Roberts, by virtually ALL accounts, Robin Roberts is a wonderful human being who has been through many trials and tribulations in life. Just because she is a public figure does not, in MY opinion, require that she share the details and make public the most personal aspects of her private life. I do not feel that any gay person has the responsibility to the larger gay community at large to shout their sexuality from the rooftops for all to know. It's a personal thing, in fact, it's as personal as it gets, and each individual has the right to handle this sensitive issue how they see fit for THEIR life -- no one else's. It should also be noted that in the case of say Robin Roberts, or Anderson Cooper, or even Jodie Foster, all of whom have been lambasted by many in the gay community for coming out so late, that they were all "out" to friends, family, and co-workers for years. It was no secret. They just didn't feel they needed to speak about it to a public who, quite frankly, has absolutely no right or need to know such information. Just because it hasn't ended up in a Facebook timeline or on a PEOPLE magazine cover does not mean they were living in the closet.

Well I think it is time to expose these anti gay politicians for what they really are, self loathing hypocrites. By doing this they lose valuable credibility which could cost them their political careers.

Shit! I was hoping this stuff would have been kept under wraps until there is a sex/meth tape type collection of evidence and revealed in the Sept/Oct before Schock runs for some higher office like Senate and/or Vice-President/President.

Now, I fear, that he will go "underground" with his sexcapades and it will be harder to get the documented goods on him before a REALLY scandalous public outing. It'd be great to see a POV video of him sucking a big, hard monster cock, then taking it up the ass like a bitch ala Paris Hilton / Rick Solomon style. Seeing him slamming, sucking on a meth pipe, or snorting a rail of blow the length of a table would seal his "Conservative Republican Credibility" for life.

I still think there's something going on between him and Paul Ryan.

You have just called Art_Deco a coward. Perhaps you should retract that statement.

I doubt that there are many here who at one time or another didn't live their lives "in the closet". Everyone comes out at different times, for various reasons, at varying stages of their lives. I don't think there is any set rule that someone is suppose to come out at a given age or they are labeled a "coward". For many of us, it was a huge step to open that closet door and leave that closet for good. Personally, I just think it's unfair to chastise others just because perhaps their appropriate time to come out has not yet presented itself or felt right for them.

Being quietly in the closet, flying under the radar, is one thing. Taking a public office, lying to your constituents about who you are, routinely voting against your interests like an uncle Tom, and in doing so relegating others like you as second class citizens (just to make yourself look good to other homophobes)....that's all something quite different.

You're right, but only IF the rumors are true.

Openly gay Rep. Barney Frank said in the movie Outrage--I posted the clip in the other thread about the closeted Crist, that spineless, self-hating, homophobic hypocrite who attempted to constitutionally deny our human rights--that "there is a right to privacy but not a right to hypocrisy." He notes also that politicians be subject to living the conditions of their own laws as a matter of democracy.

Where a politician is being hypocritical, they give up their privacy rights. Particularly where they use their position of power to harm us, outing becomes not only excusable but demanded. Why? Because of a little thing call the public good: the public interest which insists upon truth, not simply to stop him from causing further harm, and certainly not to embarrass to poor chap.

Rather, the common good in this case justifiably requires universal understanding of how homophobia can make a gay person self destruct his own life and the lives within his own community. The common good is social health so the hypocrite must be quarantined. Our priority ought to be exposing their hypocrisy at every opportunity.

    May pride prevail.

I wonder if Frank voted against measures to achieve congress subject itself to the same laws as everyone else. I'd bet quite a lot that he has.

Let's not get into a fight on personal terms here Joe. It wouldn't be a good thing to do.

Why, would you set aside basic human decency and try to publicly shame me, which you threatened to do to Alan?
