Is not having a similar or same taste in music or movies with a guy a deal breaker for you?

So I'm a massive Beyonce fan
Love different types of music from dancehall to K-pop

addicted to reality tv shows e.g Real housewives of atlanta etc

love sci-fi shows .e.g Fringe ,charmed etc

    sci-fi movies etc

BUT my bf is not ,which is super annoying at times since we can never have a conversation about the shows or if I make references to the shows he won't get it .e.g "shade or reading "

can never go to concerts together and I cant even play Beyonce without getting "oh she is so overrated etc "....

and with sci-fi "oh its just fake blah blah " just simply takes the fun out of watching it with him

we can never have car sing-along since we don't share a similar taste in music so radio is usually off hahah .........extremely gay but yeh haha

So is not having a similar or same taste in music or movies with a guy a deal breaker for you ?

    Definitely not!

Seriously, there are so many people out there who are:

    coupled but like to play
    into BB/chems
    married
    using fake or old pics
    generally bonkers

Those things are deal breakers for a prospective relationship. Not different tastes in music or films!

Hell no! My bf likes watching Housewives of Beverly Hills, Vanderpump Rules, the Food Network and is a big history buff. I prefer action movies, documentaries, broadway musicals and college football. Yet we always have fun together.

No. One of my ex-bfs and I had a lot of different tastes in music and movies. What eventually happened was that I started to gravitate towards his likes (kept mine in check though) and he also started to like some of the stuff I liked as well. I learned a lot about myself from him through that experience too.

And yes, Beyonce's music is overrated lol.

    Who is Beyonce?

@EchelonHaze Seriously though - for most people, including me, it would not be a reason to break off a relationship. (How long have you been an item?)

But if you have nothing in common besides sex, why did you get together in the first place?

My partner and I share some tastes in music, TV and film, but not all. We each have interests in some of these that the other can't stand. We don't have to do everything together, thank god.

18months now haha ,like Im not planning on ending it or anything

its just that one of my girlfriend's had mentioned it as being a deal breaker for her ,so I was just wondering if it was the same for gay guys, since we often have a limited selection when it comes to guys

If their tastes are something that already annoys me then it probably wont work but if its something I am indifferent too then id work through it. I am the type of person that can be annoyed very easily by repetition like our media tends to do.

    Basically.

I think country might be a deal breaker, though. Kidding. Jesus.

As long as they're open minded, they'll eventually learn to like the stuff I like. icon_biggrin.gif

It really depends. If all he watches are Jackass and Will Farrell movies, then I would expect his intelligence level to be too low. I do stereotype guys who are into the typical gay icons such as Lady Gaga, Madonna, Cher, Britney Spears as too gay for me, but if he liked folk music or show tunes then I would be able to live with it.

Lol funny topic, I like Beyonce's music but I think she can be a little bit annoying sometimes just listening to her. I think it'd depend on the personality of the guy when he watch or see his music/tv/movie selection. If he turns into a lunatic every time he sees a horror film or act very diva-ish or bitchy whenever he listens to Lady Gaga/Beyonce, then Houston, We have a problem!!! icon_redface.gificon_eek.gif

Not a deal breaker, but it would be a problem if he was the type that made fun of or constantly complained about my likes.
