Yesterday we had our check presentation ceremony for SMART Ride 10, 2013, to the 7 non-profit HIV/AIDS agencies in South Florida that we benefit.

The final total we raised during our November bicycle ride to Key West was $1,070,101.

The 2 top recipient agencies were the Children's Diagnostic & Treatment Center: $151,000

And the Pride Center at Equality Park: $149,000

The other 5 agencies received between $130,000 and $136,000 each. The differences reflect that individual riders may designate how part of the money they raise is allocated.

Another 10% of the total, roughly $100,000, will be granted to other smaller Florida HIV/AIDS operations upon approval of their individual applications in the months ahead.

Please note that 100% of the money riders raise goes directly to HIV/AIDS non-profit activities. Our operating expenses are covered by business sponsors. We are one of the few charities in the United States that can make that claim.

My own local rider team raised over $50,000. Thanks to anyone here who contributed, and I hope you'll consider participating in SMART Ride 11, November 14-15, 2014, as a Rider, or Crew, or Donor.

    http://thesmartride.org

(The site hasn't been updated to reflect the donations received since conclusion of the Ride on November 16, 2013)

Like it or not, many gay men have HIV. That's reality.

The agencies to which the SMART Ride gives that million dollars will use it not only to assist those already infected, but also to fund testing, education and outreach efforts. To PREVENT the spread of HIV in the LGBT community. I think that's a good thing, don't you?

Among the things our SMART Ride money has been used to purchase includes a mobile HIV testing van, and expansion of an assisted living facility (ALF) for indigent AIDS patients. And for educational outreach programs to the at-risk gay community, to try to prevent the spread of HIV.

Our biggest money recipient this year, the Children's Diagnostic & Treatment Center (CDTC) in Fort Lauderdale, focuses on pediatric HIV/AIDS. These are kids infected by their mothers in most cases. They aren't gay men, they aren't lesbians. They're innocent little children, who contracted this disease through no fault of their own.

Yes, HIV isn't a gay-only crisis. But it affects us more than any other demographic. I wanna help all those infected, and put an end to it. If you don't wanna get involved, to get your hands dirty with a largely gay issue, fine. But please spare us your criticism.

YourName2000 saidBob, why do you let these pieces of shit get to you? You have a partner to think about. Just do what the doctor suggested. Better yet, block these irrelevant trolls and know you'll never miss a thing from it --your life will actually be richer for the experience. And know confidently that others will take up the charge to keep the riff-raff out, and sooner or later admin will wake up too.

So really, think of your partner and yourself and simply block these idiots once and for all. You know that SB has absolutely no idea what "respectfully" even means, it's just a trolling tactic. And Chester is just a fugly low-intel troll. Leave them both to fester in their own shit...your words only give them sweet reprieve from their own self-created hells.

SB is already blocked. And that self-admitted straight troublemaker freedomisntfree.

Chester is a new name to me, and I suppose I should block him, too. It's a good chance he's either an SB or FIF sock, or one of these other NOM plants.

So really these POS's are not getting to me. I'm happy to spread the good news of what we've done to combat HIV/AIDS, hoping that others will be inspired to join in.

And if these perennial gay haters like SB and FIF are posting here, I've long ago learned that no one of sense pays them any mind. I hope no one quotes them, because I'd rather not read their gay hatred, since I have them on Ignore.

"And that self-admitted straight troublemaker freedomisntfree."

"Self admitted" Bobbi? Doesn't take you long at all to start the same old shit does it you pompous blowhard? And you wonder for even a second why you're so mentally sick? And maybe that mental sickness is making you physically sick.

I noticed that that you mentioned that you're just back from a COCKtail party? Maybe that's a bit of your problem Bobbi ... alcohol. Alcohol is clearly NOT your friend Bobbi.

I also noticed that another poster gave fairly complete instructions regarding how to use Google Advanced Search with the forums here at RJ. So why don't you get off of your fat ass and show me where I ever said that I'm straight .... ever.

Of course anyone who has the audacity to LIE about their rank would be fully capable of lying about just about anything.

It's remarkable, isn't it. I really don't know why admin allows vermin like SB to stay.

What's truly remarkable is that he didn't bother to look up the number one recipient. A lot of gay people know firsthand the ravages of this illness, many remembering when help wasn't offered. Now here we are, with gays helping the same demographic that once largely judged us unfairly; that's not only classy, but a good example of not holding grudges and showing compassion for others of a demographic group that once and in some cases still is, marginalizing gays. Classy because it's about not refusing help to some of a demographic simply because others of that demographic made life miserable for so many.

YourName2000 saidYeah, I really don't get why FIFi is even allowed here. Straight women used to get banned pretty quick, and they were usually just here asking sensible questions. He's kind of like Dontknowwhy: I wonder how lonely you have to be to continually go back to a site where you're hated, you hate them (as he routinely shows with his anti-gay stances and troll posts), but in the end it's the only place in the world someone will even acknowledge your presence, even if only to spit on you. It really is hard to accept that FIFi and SB are part of the 1%, living high on the hog, lol. If this is the height of their lives, trolling a gay website and bashing fags to make themselves feel important for a minute, it's pretty pathetic.

And exactly how many times have you been banned?

The bleeding hearts in here defending Muslims and Islam make me sick....they'd kill you as soon as look at you, and you would give them that opportunity thinking your graciousness would count to such dogs.

If god gave me the choice to cure cancer the whole world over OR kill every last Muslim right down to babies and destroy that evil book, there's no choice for me: I'll rid the Earth of the bigger disease and frankly I'd be happy to help with my own hands.

    There are no "good" Muslims.

That said, there is no information yet suggesting they're responsible for this particular terrorist attack. But kill 'em anyway (before they kill everything else.)

They'll be the death of human decency; the death of science; the death of democracy; the death of Christians, Jews, and everyone who doesn't sell their soul to the pedophile false prophet. And they'll certainly be the death of every gay man and woman the world over.

But what? You're stupid enough to think if you just bake 'em a nice pie they'll see what a nice guy you and your BF are? Think if they just watch Will and Grace reruns they'd love us? You're talking about animals who don't believe that fresh water can mix with salt water because that's what the qur'an says....never mind just watching a river empty into the ocean, oh no....it's in the qur'an so it can't happen.

Kill them all. Fertilize the fields with them so their lives can at least serve some noble purpose. Bury them with pig entrails, and mourn the pig.

I really am not looking to stir up anything, but isn't everyone taking the wrong message from this thread?

People are more angry that ART posted about it on this forum (Implying it's a gay issue) than the fact that he helped his organization raise over a million dollars to help those suffering from a horrible disease that does in fact affect more gay men than straight men or women in developed countries.

http://aids.gov/hiv-aids-basics/hiv-aids-101/statistics/Although MSM represent about 4% of the male population in the United States, in 2010, MSM accounted for 78% of new HIV infections among males and 63% of all new infections. MSM accounted for 52% of all people living with HIV infection in 2009, the most recent year these data are available.

Can't everyone just be happy at the generosity that allows for research for those people who unfortunately do have HIV/AIDS?

I had intended to put this thread in the Cycling Forum, where I had posted other SMART Ride threads. So that was a mistake on my part.

But being away from this site for a few days I forgot the RJ change that now defaults all posts to "All Things Gay" unless you manually select another drop-down title. Used to be that if you were already in a particular Forum, like Cycling, subsequent new threads went there, too.

I might also have put this in the HIV/AIDS Forum, as RJ does have one by that name. An indication that HIV is seen as a sufficiently important & pertinent topic on this gay site.

Again I want to thank the guys here who showed interest in our efforts during the year, let them know how the fundraising went (a record!), and encourage continued support of similar activities held throughout the world.

Half of these slimy jackasses who pretend they're elitist 1% pieces of shit are so delusional, they'll never earn a million dollars over their entire lifetimes. And here you are raising more than that to champion our causes and those of society's as a whole...

I'm trying to largely ignore them, my health requires it. Which is why, like the cowardly gay-hating bullies they are, they keep attacking me behind my back.

And thanks for your generous words, but I have stories about the real heroes in our community. I'm really not one of them myself. I merely follow their examples. I'm simply a victim of having fallen in with GOOD company. LOL!

When I first came out late in life I was blessed with having a gay mentor. Now HE was a true hero, and I've told his inspiring story here before. It was he who introduced me to the gay world, and drilled into me our gay community obligations. I don't know if I would have done those things on my own, without his example getting me started.

My late partner had HIV, and worked with the gay community, another hero. My best friend was the President of a State's Equality organization. All my gay friends are in some way involved with gay causes & charities.

And my husband was a founder of the SMART Ride in this thread, and involved with other gay non-profits, also a founder of Florida gay choruses. How could all of that not rub off on me?

What *I* hope to do by mentioning these things is cause them to rub off on others. I don't care what you think about me, I care what you think about these beneficial gay community activities.

And yeah, I know there are disruptors here, trying to demoralize & undermine pro-gay efforts. We can guess what their motivations & third-party incentives are. But I'm learning that most guys here are wise to them, and know their game, rejecting their hostile outsider propaganda. And that's why I'm trying to remain active here, as an antidote to their anti-gay poison.

Thanks! I'm doing great! Played a little golf today, attended a birthday party last night, a brunch and later an evening cocktail party the day before on Sunday. Back to my former routine.

Key West is coming up in 3 days, and I intend to use that full week as a laid-back recuperation. Though I'm not sure what sitting at an outdoor bar next to totally naked guys will do to my blood pressure! LOL!

Will keep the alcohol consumption down, though, that's another thing that's not good for me right now. And the trip is right down to the wire as far as postponing it, because a cold front is coming. The bois won't strip down when it's in the 60s. So I'm watching the weather forecast hourly.
