Ok so being an old guy, I got my Medicare set up in January last year. Didn't go to a Dr for a checkup first visit until December. Next thing I know I get a bill from the Dr's clinic for $540. I call them and they say they billed it to Medicare but it was declined as my effective date is January 2014.
So now I have to call Medicare and go through their labyrinthine, voice operated phone tree and then, not even sure I was in the right cue, stay on hold for 45 minutes, all the while enduring stupid music and occasional reminders to get a flu shot, etc., before I can speak to a real, live agent. Finally I get through and they explain, yes, my Medicare was active as of 1/2013 BUT the Dr's clinic billed them for an "Annual" checkup, and I'm not eligible for that until after I've been in the Medicare system for a full year.
So, she then tells me, it should have been billed as a "Welcome to Medicare Prevention Checkup," which I was eligible for.
SO WTF -- I've waisted an hour of my life dealing with some stupid bureaucratic crap all because someone didn't check the right box on a form. ERRrrrrrggg
