What sort of changes can I make in a year?

I'm 5'8 and 125 pounds. My chest is 38" and my waist is 29." My arms are.... 11" when flexed. (Don't laugh.)

I don't work out as it is. I have only handful of times in my life. Do I have a good structure to work with? And what changes can I make in a year? I think I want to work on my arms the most, but of course I'd like abs and pecs too. Nothing extreme though. What can I expect in a year of having a regular workout routine? I'm really completely clueless. What should I do when I'm working out? How much should I eat? Would anyone be willing to give me some help here?

Just thought I'd try and ask! Take care!

Don't neglect your legs! Arms and pecs and abs are all well and good but they look silly on spindly little toothpick legs.

In a year, if you eat a lot (and well) you could reasonably expect to gain 10-20 pounds, or more if you've got unlocked genetic potential (who knows?). This website has good workout routines, videos that explain exercises, and meal plans. If you've never worked out in a gym before, get one session with a trainer to show you the ropes. Check out youtube channels on weightlifting and fitness. I like ATHLEAN-X and Scott Herman Fitness, even though he can be kind of annoying to watch he has good tips.

As for how much you should eat, the answer is A LOT. You should never feel hungry. Has it been an hour since you ate? Eat more. Other members on here with backgrounds in nutrition and bodybuilder-style eating will have better insight in that department. I just eat eat eat eat eat. And then I eat again.

Good luck! Seven years ago, I weighed a bit more than 30 pounds less than I do now. Fitness is a lifelong journey, and the guys on this site are (almost) all on it!

    Thanks for the great reply!
What if you have a hard time eating? I find it extremely difficult to eat; I have a low appetite. And also, what does 10-20 pounds of muscle look like? Is it a noticeable difference?

Imagine 20 of those steaks; that's what 20 pounds of muscle looks like. It's a huge, huge difference.

If eating will be your biggest hurdle, you're going to have to learn to eat when you're not hungry. Also, exercising at a level that builds muscle also increases your appetite.

Work with what you got son. I'm a small dude too, so I feel your pain. Just accept genetics will never allow you to develop a bodybuilder type frame. Some guys are just naturally bigger than others. So work with what you got. You can still get in shape and get ripped as fuck. Trust me, lean and toned gets you laid.icon_biggrin.gif

Actually, to be honest your body type is more or less what I'm aiming for! I'm not really interested in being totally jacked.
What did you do to get like that? How long did it take, if you don't mind me asking?

Actually, shorter guys have a big advantage in appearing bigger in a shorter amount of time.

It takes less muscle to bulk up that arm when the bone is shorter, you know.

Yes, 20 lbs can make a huge difference. There are a pair of LEAN 20 year olds at my gym who are exactly 5'8" and 145 lbs with absolutely incredible bodies.

Check out two young guys at this link, one 5'8" and 150 lbs: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=151607173&page=2

    I dunno. I just work out * shrug *

Actually I do a lot of cardio every other day, followed by abs in between.

    Mondays-Biceps, triceps

    Tuesdays- Shoulders

    Weds-Tits

    Thursdays-Back

    Friday- Legs, Ass

Weekends-Whatever the fuck I feel like

I don't focus so much on heavy lifting as others. But I think I'm not doing too bad for a guy my size...no?icon_confused.gif

I am 5'8" as well and weighed 145 last year, and weigh ~155 now (and I've actually lost body fat), but I don't go all the time.

You can make some pretty significant changes. I don't really work out that much and while I was never 125lbs, I gained 10lbs over a 6 month period from going to the gym once a week and eating right.

Though like other have said, don't expect to get huge, but it really doesn't matter, it matters more that you have a good amount of muscle for your frame/size.

I never really have issues with guys saying I need more muscle, what I have seems to be plenty, so don't necessarily be looking at fitness models thinking that's what you need to be. A lot of times that seems to discourage people because they don't feel the are progressing fast enough and then end up not being as motivated after a couple months and stop going to the gym.

I really don't want to be built. I just want to have a decent amount of muscle and good definition.

With him, he almost certainly injected steroids into his bottom.

    Now where's my blowjob icon_razz.gif
