I love my new job actually.. I was a shop hand for a construction company then I got promoted to IT.. 1 of 3 IT employees for over 200+ employees out in the field. I love it because I get a lot more respect and I get to help a lot of people and I feel important because technology is the most important part in the construction industry and I feel it's my job to find the best tech for our employees to make their job easier.

I just want to know: what kind of job do you have? Do you like it or dislike it and why?

And include any stories you want to.

I feel everyone likes to talk about what they do and why.. so here is your shot

I like that I'm in charge of my department, report to the Controller, and only have the goals that I make for the department.

Dislike is more of a challenge than a dislike, which is working with legal and how long it takes for them to respond on anything.

    Like: The pay.
Dislike: Shitty manager. Boring work. I'm getting ready to move on to other things.

The work is fine but I just don't always like having to go in there everyday.

I work as a front of house employee at an Italian restaurant while in college.

Like: My managers are very laid back, flexible hours

Dislike: Entitled customers who think I have control over the prices

I like working from home and around my college schedule,

I don't like clients who don't understand what they're talking about and think things can be created/ changed overnight or that I have no other priorities except for them.

    Finance guy here.

LOVE that I got promoted to department head and have an awesome CFO for a boss - she rocks, and we do, too, as a result.

HATE that some recipient of financial reports is always wanting something changed, asking uninformed questions, having to be dealt with like a china doll lest they complain to the Trustees.

    LOVE
-- that I really enjoy being a realtor so it doesn't seem like work.
-- I get to see some pretty amazing homes
-- get to meet lots of really interesting people
-- I'm not a morning person so I can schedule my day geared
toward the afternoon and early evenings

    HATE
-- That I have to work many, if not most, weekends
-- It requires a lot of driving
-- It requires a good amount of paperwork which I hate.
-- The people who waste my time pretending to be buyers but aren't

Honestly I never had a job i liked. It was always a way to get cash to persue my dream. I also went to college for communications as a backup just in case I have to switch to plan B. The idea of working a nine to five plus job does not appeal to me even though I have bills to pay.

"I just want to know: what kind of job do you have? Do you like it or dislike it and why?"

Job: Caretaker/Operator of a small world import business.

    Like it? Yes, Love it!

    Why?
The shop is actually a Metaphysical/Pagan/New Age supply store and healing center masquerading as a tourist gift shop. I meet people from all over the world, from every walk of life; and I get to learn from them while I serve. I care for the store and the store cares for me. I truly love my work. icon_cool.gif

"I feel everyone likes to talk about what they do and why.. so here is your shot"

    A story? Hmmmm....

Years ago my friends and I used to drive two hours to visit a shop in another city to get our incense and supplies. At that time (and to this day) there were very few stores of its' kind in our state. I fondly remember how much I loved that store and the feeling of being at home and safe there. It was a world of wonder and joy for us all. Fast forward about twenty-five years. Now, through a chain of events that would blow your mind; I am walking that very process myself. I never set out to do this. I never saw it coming. It was never a plan. And yet, it is so. It is now my humble pleasure and task to strive toward providing a space of such safety, peace and compassion. I have partners and a crew that amaze me daily. I have customers that amaze me daily. After a dozen or so years now I still feel as green at this work as the new grass.
This is why I believe so much that we as humans can become so much more than we ever expected. Life pretty much leaves me speechless....

Two jobs here: Graphic Designer and Dance Instructor

LIKES: The creativity and non-routine nature of both. I don't have a 9to5 setup, which works for me.

DISLIKES: The short deadlines and demanding clients for the design work; the soreness and drain that sometimes comes from dancing everyday.

    Ex- Banker here.

Loved: managing people, ability to make a difference in community affairs, setting goals and then coaching/cheerleading my people. Pay was good.

Hated: corporate politics, backstabbing, tribalism within the group. The higher up the ladder you went the worse it got. And it had nothing to do with running the company well-- in fact it was a detriment. Hated having my fate under someone else's control in particular.
