Russell Johnson was gay-friendly; he had a gay son who died of AIDS. As a kid he was one of those TV actors I felt an attraction to, like "Ranger Rick" from "Flipper," except "The Professor" was an intellectual, the type of PERSON kids weren't supposed to find attractive!
One Mother's Day several years ago at a neighborhood restaurant a couple of blocks from my house here in the 'burbs I was distracted by a woman at the table across from me because she was very striking with a simple black leather blazer and straight red hair. She looked familiar, and then it clicked and my eyes immediately swept her face and voila! The warts/beauty spot. It was "Ginger," Tina Louise! I was dining with a group including a retired garmento who said she claimed she was a Jewish girl from the Bronx like his classmate Betty Bacall, but unlike Lauren Bacall, Tina (her real first name) was (I'll put it discreetly here) quite popular among his crowd back in the day. He asked whether he should go over and reintroduce himself and I snarled "Those may be relatives of hers, don't you dare!"
