Steve McQueen, director of 12 Years a Slave is on the Arsenio Hall show right now.

This past week, I saw August Osage County--which reminds me to go back to the nominees page and see who's up for the various writing Oscars.

That looked like it might actually be funny. Not $10 funny but on HBO funny.

I only saw Captain Phillips on the best picture list! I don't think it's going to win though. I think best pic will go to either (12 years a Slave or American Hustle). I think 12 years will win, it's such a strong year for African-Americans in the movies. As far as Best Actor and Actress, I like Leo Dicaprio and Cate Blanchett. (I think the Black Actor in 12 Years, how do you say his name? will pull an upset in Best Actor. Best supporting actress also goes to the Black Actress in 12 years over Jennifer Lawrence), so 2 Upsets I'm predicting. Urg, Meryl Streep on the list again? Lol No Asian (Ang Lee) vs Jewish (Speilberg) direction this year. Hahaha icon_cool.gif Oh yeah, How dare they snub Oprah in The Butler!! SHe was so great in it.

I thought you were taking the piss icon_eek.gificon_lol.gif

As per usual the Oscar's are so fucking predictable and boring. I do want Amy Adams or Cate Blanchett to win though.

    - Too much American Hustle.
    - Inside Llewyn Davis was really shoved under the rug, as was Oscar Isaac. Christian Bale over him? Pffft. How many dicks and clits did David O'Russell lick for this?
    - My ideal Best Actor list would've been: Leonardo DiCaprio, Oscar Isaac, Joaquin Phoenix, Matthew McConaughey and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
    - Happy for Cate Blanchett. She has to win this.
    - Happy for Her getting a Best Screenplay nod. So original. If it wins it'll be like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind winning.
    - Overall, apart from the good nods, a disappointing nominations.

So many great performances this year. I think for sure locks to win are probably Matthew McConaughey, Cate Blanchett, and Jared Leto. As for "Best Picture", I kind of think it could be a surprise this year because some of the top picks might cancel each other out (like "American Hustle" and "12 Years A Slave") to make way for perhaps a surprise winner like "Gravity".

We haven't seen all the movies in contention yet, but so far,

We're blown away by American Hustle, Blue Jasmine and, slightly a notch behind, Philomena.

Actress-wise, Cate Blanchett, Amy Adams and Judi Dench all were amazing, with Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock a tiny bit of a step right behind them in some actress-Nirvana tier.

Actors... Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey blew us away, but again, we haven't seen the other.

For supporting actors, Jared Leto and Bradley Cooper rocked in their roles.

Jennifer Lawrence and Julia Roberts super-rocked their supporting actress performances.

We'll revisit this when we've seen 12 Years, Wolf (which we're dreading because we've heard from everyone we know who's seen it that, despite Leo's performance, it's truly dreadful) and, especially anticipating, Nebraska.

I totally agree with you on Oscar Isaac. I just saw Inside Llewyn Davis today and it's now easily one of my favorite films, ever. When I looked up the Oscar nominees and saw he or the movie was not listed I was really shocked and angry. The movie was phenomenal and his performance was outstanding.
