Poor bloke. I think people are just too sensitive, and Tyler Oakley totally blew it out of proportion.

I wish Liam handled it more gracefully, however I can understand why he didn't. When you're in the public eye, young, and expected to behave yourself/be an example to your fans, forced to work like a dog, to be constantly scrutinised and even to watch what you say, I'm not surprised he broke down like he did.

Hopefully it can all be shoved under the rug for a bit.

Good stuff from One Direction. He explained briefly, but very well with not agreeing with everything they say at all times.

This is the BEST way of dealing with any person or entity.

Oakley is just a tragic queen is has to jump on the nearest PC bandwagon as soon as he possibly can.

Never thought I would give props to One Direction icon_razz.gif

lol, I guess he hasn't heard that DD is all an act put on by a well to do rich family. Fun entertainment, but there's as much real about them as The Fantastic Four.

I actually thought he handled it very gracefully. I have a real problem with people being so overly scrutinized, with every word they utter dissected and over-analyzed. Millions of people like the "Duck Dynasty" clan --clearly they have a following -- I personally don't really get the whole thing, but whatever. Regardless, like Liam said, just because he likes the show and their values doesn't necessarily mean he agrees with everything they say. I think it's starting to make the gay community look almost petty when people like this Tyler Oakley character try to blow up something like this into more than it really is.

I'm always amused by the term, 'The Gay Community'.........................because there isn't one. Nope Not at all. Uh uh.

Being gay is pandemographic, existing in every culture, community, and country. Monolithic we are not.

    It's lazy-speak.

What a bunch of losers commenting here. Want to be taken seriously? Stop whining at every perceived slight. Get over yourselves. Bunch of whining, sad queens.

Actually, NO, it isn't "lazy speak" it's, unfortunately, how we all get lumped in with those who like to make much ado about nothing sometimes. To you, and me, and everyone else who are part of the larger "Gay Community", we know that the community at large has many facets and smaller communities within it. However, that isn't necessarily how we are viewed by others.

lol, well, all I can do is to repeat myself that there is no
'gay community'. Gays are as diverse as their straight counterparts. Is this a US phenomenon?

You're entitled to define "Gay Community" however you like, however MY definition of "Gay Community" encompasses ALL gays --- people who live as homosexuals wherever and however they choose. Beyond that, within the broader "Gay Community" there are a zillion micro-communities --- just like any other community.

I don't define it at all. icon_wink.gif I refute its existence.

Sad. I would have refuted it's existence until I moved to California. As mentioned above, there isn't a singular "Gay Community," (how boring would that be?). However, the sub-cultures within a sub-culture are usually very special indeed, and aren't readily duplicated within other parts of society unless one belongs to a religious institution or is on a college campus.
    Consider:
LGBTI youth groups that support leadership training and scholarships.
    Crisis hotlines.
"Gay Community" benefits that pay for medical bills.
Lobbyists that support human rights (without a "gay community," do you really think we would have progressed as far as we have??).
    PFLAG.
Without a "gay community," Pussy Riot would still be imprisoned.
This list goes on and on. There is a "gay community" because we got sick of discrimination and homophobia. Real Jock is a gay community. Otherwise, consider joining eHarmony or Christian Mingle.com. Within a religious institution, you need to "belong." To benefit in a "gay community," you just need to show up and be "gay" (gosh, don't labels just SUCK?).

who gives a fuck what some punk in (yet another) stupid boy band thinks? In two years he'll be less relevant than Dennis Rodman. who the fuck "listens" to 1 direction anyway that isn't a 12 year old girl or a member of their family?

Seriously, people are looking to Duck Dynasty and One Direction for political and cultural opinion?
