So uncomfortable truths shouldn't be brought up because of some blind ideological deference...?

“Dr. King taught us that 'an individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.' In honor of this spirit, Americans across the country will come together for a day of service. By volunteering our time and energy, we can build stronger, healthier, more resilient communities. Today, let us put aside our narrow ambitions, lift up one another, and march a little closer to the nation Dr. King envisioned.” —President Obama

It's an important day and holiday, and it's been around for a lot longer than you've existed. Show a little respect and save the bashing til tomorrow.

Why? Did Kiwilifter bash MLK? No, the fact that you see it as such is a reflection of your own idiocy.

The fact it is highly unlikely that MLK would have agreed with the unmanned drone attacks that have killed countless civilians makes it a perfectly good issue to discuss on this day.

Show a little intelligence and get your head out of your ass.

Sorry, you have no power here, Riddler. There are 364 days of the year you can mock the US. Is that not enough?

Thankfully I was raised to understand respect.

And I'm sorry you are so unable to differentiate between respect for MLK's values and respect for what the Obama (and Bush) Administration have advocated. Let's be clear that you have no power here either.

While you may have been raised to understand respect, it's too bad you weren't raised to know when and where to use it.

If only this were true. In my community someone will be shot and killed as in past MLK parades in my city. So sad that young, black Americans, of all people, do not know or heed Dr. King's message.

I pray it doesn't happen this year.

KiwiLifter is a coward anyway, the way he judges others in the community but can't even show his face.

Why do you keep posting anti obama rhetoric on MLK day?

Do you think they're the same person?

I don't agree with drone attacks, but this thread is about the memory of Dr. King and not the faults of our current government.

If a white president were issuing drone strikes no one would comment about it on an MLK thread.

Did people assume Bush would be a carbon copy of John Lennon? No. They would see Lennon and Bush as two separate individuals with almost nothing in common. They can't seem to see through their own racism and realize that they're creating a double standard.

Note: Obama should be compared to other presidents, and he's leaps and bounds better than Bush, in terms of intelligence, compassion, equality, leadership, and the list goes on ... Bush crashed the economy with his war mongering and pandering to the wealthy, all while scapegoating gays. So, I guess if we're to compare Obama to MLK we might as well compare Bush to Hitler.

meninlove: kiwi, this is an important day and federal holiday for our US friends and family. Please don't s**t on it. They don't s**t on your country's important days.

On MLK Day it's reasonable to reflect on race relations in the U.S. as well as the current occupant of the White House.

It's rich when Lefties get all pompous over some satire, as though they are the guardians of decorum at RJ.

Let's recall that the Reverend Martin Luther King earned that title with authentic seminary degrees, unlike Jackson and Sharpton.

There's an airhead on RJ whose favorite phrase seems to be "Bible-thumper." Let's recall that MLK was indeed a "Bible-thumper", as were most of the Founding Fathers and most of the great men of history.

Last but not least, let's recall that MLK was a Republican. He bravely challenged the party of slavery, segregation, the KKK, Jim Crow laws, and racial division: the Democrat Party.

Do I think that there should be a national holiday for a private citizen? Probably not, when courageous geniuses, and undisputed national heroes like Washington and Jefferson don't have their own holidays.

Did the same political correctness which gave MLK a national holiday also lead to the election of the current occupant of the White House? That could be reason enough to engage in some satire.

Don't be an idiot jockfever, all I've said is for outsiders to respect a US meaningful day. I haven't commented on Mr King either one way, or another. Go back and look.

PS tuck your bigoted agenda back in. It's hanging out. icon_lol.gif
